Boca Chita Key Campground

I have camped many times on Boca Chita and have always had a great time. The channel into the harbor is well marked and the harbor itself is excellent and well sheltered. On the weekends try to arrive early as the harbor fills up quickly. Another option is to arrive at dusk, when the many day boaters have departed. The... more

Biscayne National Park has a really nice property for fishing and a picnic area on the water with barbecue grills. They have some nice ranger-led programs, but save your money and skip the $25 glass bottom boat ride. Opt instead for one of their other offerings. There was nothing to see in high season when I was there and I... more

June 3, 2005 - Took the snorkel tour through the boat company that works out of the Visitor's Center (Dante Fascell - on the mainland). Cost was just under $40 per person and includes all gear, if needed. Boat is typical unelegant bus to the reefs and such. Our crew was an older captain who drove the boat and what... more

Advice from a native redneck: tour Boca Chita and Elliot between November and March. Bugs are then at a minimum, but carry some bug spray tp be sure. I was just out there and had a delightful stay at Elliot. more

Talk about pigpen! Boca Chita is far worse then Elliott Key. I've camped at both and will never return to Boca Chita. Bathrooms were horrendous and the music blasting from the various boats and stereos didn't stop until 2AM. Elliott Key is bad for mosquitoes and racoons but so are the rest of the keys. Wear plenty of Off and... more

I love Boca Chita. I took a trip there with Biscayne Sailing. We camped out. The place is beautiful, best to visit on weekdays. Bugs are around wherever you camp. That's part of camping. Having boats and a captain made this trip more excellent. more

Infested with mosquitos carrying the West Nile Virus, and lime decease carrying ticks. Horrible, Horrible! more

We had to take a vendor-provided boat to get us and our kayak out there ($128 round trip for us and the 'yak). Dirty bathrooms, bad tasting drinking water, filthy campsites (you're supposed to pack out your trash, but no one's doing a good job of it), super-aggressive raccoons, and big mosquito and no-see-ums population (in February!). Don't waste the... more

One of the hidden treasures of the National park Service. Within easy reach of Miami by boat only, this very small and limited park offers solitude ,pristine and well maintained grounds. Sorronded by water and coral reefs ,it offers a very layed back stop to the boater on their trip throught the keys. Please remember to take out what you... more

I have anchored off Elliott Key many times, usually in the area of Coon Point. Nice swimming and no crowds during the week. Interested in knowing more about the unsuccesful attempt to develop the island in the 60s and 70s. Have tried hiking across to the ocean, but the mosquitoes are horrendous. Captain Mark Wallace more
