There are 2 ways to get to Angel Island: the ferry from San Francisco or the ferry from Tiburon. The Tiburon ferry is by far the shorter ride and the ferries go more often. (The town of Tiburon in Marin County is cute with many terrific restaurants and shops). If you can, bring your bicycle and water. The loop road... more

Angel Island is located in the bay and is only about 30 minutes away by ferry. The time is limited on the Island to about 5-6 hours when the last one leaves. This gives plenty of tiem to explore by foot, bike or Segway guided tour which looked fun. Once arriving there is generally two trails one which goes up... more

check out the following web site for more info: http://www.angelisland.org/ Everyone knows Alcatraz, Angel Island State Park is still a great secret...great place for hiking (5 miles around), biking (bring your own or rent), boating (bring your own and dock for the day) and maybe overnight backpack camping (only 9 campsites or so..reserve early).. can be very busy on summer... more

If you are bicycling, don't miss this. We rented bikes at Fisherman's warf and took them over on the ferry. The views are beautiful, and this was one of our favorite parts of our first trip to San Francisco. more
