This is a place so beautiful you will never want to leave. When you first walk out onto the balcony with the panorama of the rainforest spread out before you, the sounds, the birds at the feeders, it just takes your breath away. However Asa Wright is more than this. The staff are friendly enthusiastic and knowledgable nothing is too much... more

Asa Wright is the greatest spot I know of to convene with nature and dorks. I rate this place a 5 because that's exactly why I went in the first place. It is the pinnacle of serenity, beauty and elegance. But it is full of nerds and dorks that REALLY love birds. (I count myself among them). Be prepared to... more

My wife and I stayed at Asa Wright for 5 days. The staff was exceptional, and the rooms were clean. Waking up to the sound of birds, with a hot cup of coffee was outstanding! The food was different every meal, and was very good. The quality, variety, and quantity was fantastic. more

The rooms are small and dark; the food is bland and repetative; it is far away from anything and hard to get to; but it just doesn't matter. This place is all about the birds. If you are a birder, you will think you have died and gone to heaven. Whether you sit on the veranda and enjoy the hundreds... more

This was my second visit to the Asa Wright and it will not be my last. I took a party of 5 including 3 seniors in their 70;s and 80's. We go for the birds and the atmosphere of the lodge. 4 days is not enough. The food is local, filling and tasty. The fact that you can get away... more

There's no doubt that Asa Wright Nature Centre is in a beautiful spot with good birdwatching if that's what you're into, but, for the prices that they charge for accommodation it is an absolute rip off. My husband and I stayed there for two nights and at $180 US per person per night - yes that's $360 per night for... more

A wonderful place to see birds and rain forest! The guides are knowledgable, friendly, and unfailingly patient but.. if you are American avoid the General Manager. He is heavily anti American. He determined to sit with us 2 meals out of the 6 we were there to tell us each time in detail and with great vehemence everything wrong with... more

Management response from

The manager referred to in this review left the employ of the Asa Wright Nature Centre in November of 2006! All U.S. visitors can be assured that all of the staff and management of the Asa Wright Nature Centre will welcome them with a smile, warm feelings, and open arms!

Wonderful nature centre with good functional accommodation which you won't see too often. No AC but rooms have fans and the situation is in the Northern Range mountains so a little cooler. We found food very good though limited choice, excellent coffee, great company in communal dining, genial customer focussed informed guides, helpful reception and excellent tour guides who will... more

My husband and I stayed here between Christmas 2004 and New Year 2005. I had never paid this much money to for accommodation before so didn't know what to expect (yes it does include 3 reasonable but not fantastic buffet meals, one rum punch and afternoon tea). The room we had was nice, airy with an enclosed sitting area with... more

This lodge has wonderful grounds, great trails for birding, a peaceful swimming "pool" (natural), and excellent food. For birders, the feeders visible from the main lodge's veranda will give you easy viewing of lots of species. But the most memorable sighting for me was the bearded bell bird (easy to find on the hiking trail). What an amazing creature! The... more
