We were shocked 1 week before our trip to Halifax to find out that thr Haliburton had actually overbooked the hotel and we could not be accomodated. The owner Rob Pretty reserved a room for us in another very good hotel which probably cost him a fortune. As an apology he offered us a dinner for 2 at Stories. We... more

If you didn't know beforehand that this is a family-run affair you would soon recognise it as such. It has an intimate feel about it which is helped by the fact that the hotel is a collection of three adjacent 'historic buildings' with a delightful courtyard at the rear. There is a lovely library where tea, coffee, newspapers and a computer with... more

Over the last six months, I've stayed at the Haliburton House 3 times. Each visit was a different experience. The first time I was in a large Queen room facing the street in the main builidng. This was nice, well furnished and roomy. Despite being in the winter and cold outside, the room was warm and comfortable. Road noise wasn't... more

My husband and I booked two rooms at the Halliburton, one for us and one for my very senior parents. Upon arrival we learned that my parents were placed several floors from us, a concern due to their age and health. Well - the staff at the hotel were amazing. Though the hotel was fully booked, they jumped through hoops... more

We stayed for 4 nights in July during a month long trip of Quebec and Nova Scotia. We were very warmly and efficiently welcomed at the start and offered help with our luggage to our room which was in first annexe. We felt the room was an adequate size, well air conditioned with eveything we needed. We had a small... more

My husband and I were so impressed with The Halliburton. It is located right downtown Halifax in a great location for shopping, visiting the Citadel, Pier 21, and many other great things in Halifax. Our room was in the Pryor-Binney building and it was just perfect. We had a balcony overlooking the lovely garden/seating area that was just so relaxing.... more

August, 2008 The Halliburton A jewel of civility on a quiet street in downtown Halifax. The words superb staff are often overworked in the world of travel and tourism. The staff at The Halliburton take a charming, multi-building inn to a level of accommodation excellence not found that often in the new millennium. In a city of courteous and friendly... more

We stayed at the Halliburton for two nights and enjoyed our stay. The check-in staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the second floor up some narrow stairs which made getting to it with luggage a little awkward. I would agree with other reviews that the rooms could have been a bit bigger and ours had an... more

We recently returned from staying at the Halliburton in Nova Scotia for two nights. It is a very nice hotel. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the staff couldn't have been better. However, we didn't eat at their restaurant because it was very expensive. A week later, after reurning home, I was very dismayed to find a letter... more

There are three parts to this "boutique hotel" – the reception and dining area is in one building and then across an alley are two parts of a terrace with more bedrooms. The location is a few minutes from the waterside and the main central area. The parking area is small and tightly packed – there may be a shortage... more
