The Hotel Santa Maria is an Hotel de Charme located in a 16th century convent completely renovated in the year 2000 maintaining the flavour of the original construction. It makes a very pleasant base in a romantic and relaxing ambience. The hotel is located in an historical area of central Rome in the heart of one of the most ancient and characteristic districts of the city, Trastevere. We followed tripadvisor advice and chose the SantaMaria to stay in while in Rome. We were very happy that we did. We liked the area (Trastevere) and the hotel and its courtyard was nice to return to after a day touring. The rooms were small (typical) but very clean, the entire staff was helpful and pleasant, and the breakfast was... more

Getting to the hotel was a bit tricky as the streets are a narrow labyrinth. The taxi left us in the Santa Maria square with our luggage in tow! The graffiti-covered outer walls did not inspire great confidence, but once inside the gated entrance, our fears vanished. The courtyard was a peaceful, quiet oasis in the middle of what can... more

This was our second stay at the Hotel Santa Maria in the past two years. Without hesitation we recommend the hotel highly--it feels like "home", except almost better! The staff are great, the cappucino's are truly THE BEST we've ever had, the rooms are comfy, modern and clean, the location in Trastevere is perfect, etc. We could go on and... more

Hotel Santa Maria is a tranquil oasis in an otherwise frantic city. Hidden in the excellent eating quarter of Trestevere, it provides a perfect base from which to walk to all the sites in Rome. Our family room (which was very roomy and comfortable) led directly out onto the orange and olive tree coartyard where we would sit with a... more

There were eleven of us including three children: 9 years, 5 years, and 3 years. The rooms were surprisingly big and the air conditioning was a life saver since our... more

We stayed for the whole of the last week of October In Santa Maria. Trastevere is a very interesting area to stay with lots of local restaurants to choose from and easy walking distance from most places in the city. Hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful- particularly those involved in serving the breakfast. Free use of the internet in... more

An intimate and personalized converted cloister tucked into the tangle of lanes in Trastevere. Excellent for those good with a map and those who love to walk about the city. Extremely helpful staff, restful courtyard, superb breakfast. more
