My husband needed to go to Bermuda on business and I decided to join him. I had been to the island before and knowing how beautiful, clean and SAFE it is I had no qualms spending some time alone exploring while he was at meetings. I was a little disappointed--at first--with the company's hotel selection but since we weren't paying I figured I would make do. First of all, we arrived late and the check in person could not have been nicer. She went over everything quickly and warmly. Our room was very spacious w/ a refrigerator, wet bar, micro and coffee maker. Nothing luxurious--everything was standard and comfortable. The balcony was literally feet from the water and I could see the fish. The views of the bay are breathtaking.
The best part of this hotel? You are step away from the ferry and the hotel has tokens that they conveniently add to your room charge! So, my husband got up early and w/in seconds was at the ferry stop. i would wake later, get ready, and take the ferry to Hamilton and shop. Our cell phones worked on the island so we would meet up there. I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to have the convenience of this ferry RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOTEL!!
Things to know: nothing, absolutely nothing to do at the hotel other than gaze at the beautiful view. I didn't want to risk walking around (because there is barely room for the cars-- forget pedestrians) so thank goodness for the ferry. For eating, you must take ferry or cab to restaurants. The continental breakfast was rather disappointing. Maybe as N. Americans we are obsessed w/ refrigeration but at this "breakfast" layout there were yogurts, cream cheese, and milk left out all morning. By 9 am it was all at room temp and there was no a/c running in this sitting room, either. Not hot, but adding to the lack of refrigeration issue. The cream cheese was NEVER put away in the 3 mornings we ventured in there--by day 2 curiousity set in and I opened the lid...frightening. The items were cereal bozes, unrefrigerated yogurts (that would be taken away at 10 am only to be put right back out the next morning), breads (only select danishes were wrapped and I would eat some of that plus dry cereal), peanut butter, and jams that again were left out 24/7. The coffee maker was great w/ several selections of teas and coffees.
The staff were SO NICE. They gave us an umbrella when it rained, beach towels to take to Horseshoe Beach, good restaurant advice, and just so incredibly friendly. If you are looking to have a great time in Bermuda w/out spending hundreds just for a hotel, seriously check this place out...i was really pleasantly surprised!
