Actually called Antiguo Europa, this is not the one in Boca Chica, as the earlier post suggests (though there is a Europa Hotel in BC). This Europa was very quaint, very friendly staff and within walking distance (three blocks)of Conde Ave and the more popular tourist attractions. The hotel is not lavish, but I'd rate it as a 2.5 stars as rated in the US. Booked it through Hotelopia(--) and true to their word, the price they quoted included all taxes. $65 for a standard room with king bed, cable, a/c, running hot water, safe in every room ($10 deposit for key). The first room they gave me didn't have a balcony, but they took care of that and moved me at no charge. Free breakfast (continental) with bread, juice and fresh fruit). For you single guys, "guests" are allowed, provided they have ID. The hotel is within a mile of the coastline (no beaches in Santo Domingo), casinos are about two miles. Not a bad walk during the day. The downsides, the young kids and hustlers trying to get some of your hard earned money, by shining shoes or helping you in any way they can. A stern "no, gracias" is all it takes. Taxi from the airport is $36, entry fee to the country is $10. When leaving, contrary to material I read, there was no exit fee like Costa Rica. Taxi to the airport from the hotel was $30. Try to avoid taxi's at all cost. But if you do, negotiate and domn't pay more that 300 colones (under $10). Most of the staff spoke limited English.
