“Amazing place!!!”

Coco Boutique Hotel

Mar 26, 2008

This hotel is amazing. It´s very small ( it has only 4 rooms) and very cozy. The decoration is incredible, with a great taste.
Being there you really fell like being home. The owners, Eduardo and Elizabeth, are so nice !!
I stayed there for one week and everything was perfect. The location is excellent, you can walk everywhere from there. The breakfast is amazing, fruit, bread, eggs, coffe, fresh juices, etc...
Bottom line, Coco Boutique Hotel is AMAZING!!

“One word...AMAZING!!!”

Coco Boutique Hotel

Its hard to find the words to describe how amazing this place is. I first heard about this hotel from eatsleepdrink.com and tripadvisor. I checked out the website and was immediately impressed but to be honest, as great as the website is, it just doesnt do the hotel justice when you see it in person and there is only one word I can think of to describe this hotel...AMAZING!

I have travelled a lot and stayed at dozens of hotels but this one definitely tops my list. Everything from the location to the decor to the cocktails and the staff are incredible. You walk in and feel that you're in this amazing 5 star, ultra modern hotel but you also get the feel like you're at home with friends in a sleek and intimate setting.

The rooms...there are 4 uniquely decorated rooms in this hotel. I stayed in the "silver musk" room and it was beautiful. All of the rooms were beautiful. In fact, when I noticed that some of the rooms were empty between guests, I took photos of them because of how incredibly decorated they are. There was no detail overlooked and each room has its own unique vibe to it.

The location...EXCELLENT! Before checking into the Coco Boutique Hotel, I was staying at the Mercure on El Conde (the main pedestrian strip in the Zona Colonial). Granted, I was in the heart of all the action BUT it was noisy, crowded and I got hassled a lot by vendors. The Coco Boutique Hotel is located only a 2-3 minute walk from El Conde (and the street from El Conde to the hotel on Calle Isabel La Catolica is well lit for walking back at night), a few minutes from George Washington Avenue (the sea promenade), super close to tonnes of restaurants, bars and patios, tourist attractions including Fort Ozama and the Catedral Primada de América. There is also a small colmado across the street. It is the perfect location for everything you need to do in Santo Domingo.

The roof top patio...INCREDIBLE! I spent more than a few evenings lounging on the hotel's roof top patio. It has an unobstructed and amazing view of the city. I would often bring my ipod or a book and sit up there with a mai tai or strawberry mojito (expertly prepared by Eduardo, one of owners) and just enjoy and take it all in. I felt like I was in a luxury hotel in South Beach when I was up there!

The breakfasts...I am not usually a breakfast eater but I couldnt help myself here. The breakfast spread was sooo good!! Fresh cut tropical fruit, pastries, breads, cheese and cold cuts and eggs upon request. This isnt the run of the mill buffet style stuff you find at most hotels...it was fantastic!! I still crave that kind of breakfast now that Im back home but its definitely not the same :(

Notwithstanding everything this hotel has to offer, I have to admit that the best part of the hotel are the owners themselves. Eduardo and Elizabeth are this hotel's best asset. They are friendly, professional, caring and they definitely know how to run a hotel. I was a single, female travelling alone for the first time in Santo Domingo who doesnt speak Spanish and they would always go out of their way to make sure that I was safe, comfortable and taken care of...you just dont get that at any other hotel!!

I also have to mention that Louisa, one of the hotel's staff is wonderful! I had my laundry done at the hotel and Louisa found $200 pesos in the pocket of one of my sweaters...the next day I found a note on my bed with the $200 pesos along with my clean laundry telling me that Louisa had found the money in my pocket and that she wanted to make sure it was returned to me!! Again, you just dont get that kind of service at many hotels whether it be in Santo Domingo or anywhere else in the world!

When I come back to Santo Domingo, this will definitely be the place I will book my accomodations. My only concern is that when I do make it back, this place WILL be booked months in advance so if you're planning you're trip to SD, be sure to book the Coco Boutique Hotel ASAP...you will not regret it!

Elizabeth and Eduardo...THANK YOU both so much for your incredible hospitality...you guys are wonderful!

Pictures to follow....

“Very Nice Place”

We stayed there after reading the reviews here and were not disappointed. Having stayed in the Intercontinental earlier in the week, this was a definite improvement. It is very small but that is what we were looking for.

Notes: The rooms are very small but very nicely decorated and comfortable. There is no TV (if all you want is a TV you can save a lot by staying home). Great location but it is not on a street, it is on a walkway. So use the map, get close and walk about 50 ft to find it.

Charming couple with child running the place. Compaired to everything else I saw in DR, this place is a gem.

“The best place to stay in S. Domingo”

Coco Boutique Hotel

Found this place by chance whilst searching on-line for boutique hotels after reading another very positive review and very happy we chose it. Set in an excellent, quiet location in a smart and very pretty old town house in the best part of the colonial district, this little hotel more than lives up to it's description. Run by a small family unit the hotel has immediately a very intimate and relaxing atmosphere with well chosen contemporary and stylish decor. The owners Elizabeth and her partner Eduoardo make you feel totally welcome, at ease, and are extremely helpful with local information and suggestions.
The rooms are all comfortable, clean and very well designed, there is a charming roof terrace with views over the the old town towards the lagoon and lounge bar with a very good selection of the cocktails with the best Margaritas in town!
The ample breakfast would hold it's own against many of the bigger much more expensive hotels and they can offer very good and reasonably priced light meals and snacks at other times.
We travel a great deal for work and it's rare to find people so obviously passionate about what they do and such good hosts
it felt more like staying with close friends.

“best place to stay in the zona colonial”

We only stayed one night but wished we had planned longer in this well decorated and unique hotel. We had reservations at the Dona Elvira which was described in many places as the best place to stay, we were so disappointed with it we left (we would not recommend it) and were lucky enough to stumble across this gem of a hotel. The attention to detail was unsurpassed with beautiful rooms each uniquely decorated. The downstairs living space was elegant and breakfast was divine. It lacked the usual mundane and obligatory coffee and bread expected with a breakfast included environment instead they gave you more what you might want to order in a restaurant. We were treated with a full spread of scrumptiousness including cheese filled croissants, fruit, a meat and cheese platter and even eggs all on a well set table. The owners were helpful with tips on other great places in town to eat as well. We were sad we were not able to stay another night to enjoy cocktail hour on the roof as the first night we were so tired from travel we just enjoyed the comfy bed going to bed early. It is located in a charming neighborhood in a beautifully renovated historic home. I feel after looking at some of the other options that this is the best place you could stay in the zona colonial. I would definitely go back.
