“Great Stay at LTI”

LTI Beach Resort Punta Cana

Just back a week ago from a week stay at the LTI Beach Resort & Spa in Punta Cana. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend this hotel. We found all of the staff very helpful (especially Manuel at reception!). I'll just add a few things that we found that I didn't see covered in other reviews...

We ended up not arranging for transportation before we left and had no problem at all. There are tons of taxis avail. at the airport in clearly marked vehicles. We were quoted prices $40 - $38. We found one taxi group that would take us for $35. We ended up taking a taxi back to the airport as well and it was $38. The trip takes about a half hour. We never changed money, everyone took U.S dollars or euros.

As suggested by other reviews, we requested Building 4 or 5 when we arrived. As of August 8, 2008 Building 5 is considered 'superior' and would be $25 additional per person per night and Buidling 4 is currently under construction. They ended up showing us a couple of rooms to let us choose and we choose one in Building 3. Of the rooms we were shown, we choose one on the 3rd floor (the top) because it had a vaulted ceilng so felt a lot bigger and the air seemed to move a bit better. Buidling 3 was very centrally located, but one of the great aspects of this hotel is that nothing is very far.

There is the main buffet restaurant and 2 a la carte restaurants. We were there in the off season so the a la carte restaurants did not require a reservation but still did have a dress code (long pants for men, no sandals, etc.).

Since we enjoyed the beach so much, we just ended up taking one excursion. We did the Carribean Festival which included great snorkeling and then swimming with nurse sharks and interacting with sting rays. It was $78 per person for a half day and definitely worth it. You can also get snorkeling gear for an hour a day at the beach activities buidling but there is a roped off swimming area (lots of boats going by) so not much to see. You can also sign up for a catamaran ride once per stay.

The shops are a pretty short walk down the beach (one hotel over) and the haggeling over prices is pretty fun! They also have a couple of tables set up a couple of nights right at the hotel with jewelry and cigars. We did actually find that the little end shop set up permanently by the pool (connected to the t-shirt shop) had really great prices for jewelry.

We enjoyed our stay and think that the beach was one of the best we've visited. The room was clean and had everything we needed (even if the beds were really hard!). The minibar was stocked every day (w 2 lg. bottles of water, 2 cokes, 2 sprites). We came back very relaxed and with very good memories of the DR.

My boyfriend and i stayed for a week at LTI. I did do research on the resort, read some reviews. Found them very helpful. Getting picked up from the airport was probably the most confusing thing i've ever gone thru. Just find whoever your travel agent set you up w/and pass others by. There were so many different "taxi services". Very pushy and try to just grab your luggage. After about 1rh 1/2 ride, we got to the resort. It was beautiful. Room was all we needed. Very clean .Was a small problem w/the a/c. Found out that the sliding door wasn't closed completely, so a/c won't work w/door open. Make sure to bring your own soap/shampoo. Housekeeping does a great job. Doesn't hurt to leave a few bucks each day. All staff very friendly. Was glad that my boyfriend speaks spainish, so easier to communicate w/those who's English isn't very good. Food was ok, nothing spectacular. Beach is unbelieveable! Lots of Europeans that like to sunbathe topless. Didn't bother me, less tan lines! No problem finding spots at either the beach/pools. The nightly entertainment was ok. It's no Broadway. But we did have a beach party w/local band. Very good time. Also, there was a club. Found it very strange to see some children were allowed inside. Lots of activites, just make sure that you go thru a company that your using for transportation from/to airport. They will set up a time to go thru the options w/you. I've learned to bring a hat of any kind a high spf sublock. no matter how tan you may be, you will burn! lol! All in all, great time. If your looking for super luxury, wrong place. Just relax and enjoy the beauty.

“You get what you pay for at LTI”

My husband, me ,and our 4 teenagers stayed for a week.
The rooms smelled musty, not overpowering though. The staff was very nice, helpful and appreciated a few $$. The food, UGH, we couldn't wait to have McDonalds. Not enough restaurants and none with AC. It was hard to eat dripping with sweat. We called ahead and were told that long pants for men were not required, but they were when we got there. We did get into the restaurant with a few bribes. Everything was mediocre but the beach/water was fabulous. Small disco where the teens met some friends. We have been to other DR resorts that were much better. We didn't have a bad time but wouldn't go back.

I've read the critical reviews and couldn't disagree more. First, if you check the prices on other Punta Cana all inclusives you'll see that this resort is a genuine bargain. True, the rooms are somewhat dated but charming (and clean) nevertheless. Bug free too. The staff is very helpful and friendly (& grateful for the smallest tip), the food is varied & delicious, the shows amusing and, hey, the bars (free drinks) are open around the clock. The pools are some of the best I've ever seen. The beach has to be experienced to be believed. Probably one of the best in the Caribbean! One word of caution. If you hate topless European women stay away! I can understand the complaints about plumbing and electrical problems but this is the Dominican Republic (as in third world country, duh) . If you can't handle it go to the Jersey Shore next time! Please note that as of November '08 LTI will be changing its name to VIK Hotel Arena Blanca. Have fun and don't complain about a good thing!

“Very Sick”

Well we really dont have many nice things to say about this hotel, except the beach was amazing!First off, this hotel is more like a 2 star, not a 4 star, are room was ready when we got there, that was nice, but as soon as we got in are room we found are tolet over flow,we booked a king room, with a stocked fridge, and a balcony not a garden view, well we didnt have anything in the fridge,it was turned off,we had two double beds, and we were on the ground floor. We called front desk, about the toliet, they showed the next day, that wasnt so hot!but someone did come three times that day, because they never fixed it.And when it did work it was only temperary, this is funny one morning we had are own pool in the washroom!well needless to say we used the lobby washroom. The food,well...salty..like crazy,selections..they had them if you like food with your salt.On day three of are seven day stay both my husband and myself spent the rest of are trip in the washroom and in bed,and we were not the only visiters who got sick. The food is not well protected from insects and not changed often at all, buffet starts at 6 and ends at 10...so the food is out all that time in the heat and buggs!..we have been to the Dominicain three times, and this hotel was horrid! staff was not to bad,but not very helpful, kids loved the hotdogs!!!!oh and we didnt not drink the water even bottled water for brushing are teeth!we strongly recommend if you do go here bring your own food!
