My partner and I stayed at the Punta Cana Princess July 23-29, 2008. This was our first trip to DR and couldn't have had a better time. We did book Platinum Level.

Check In - No problem, we were sent to room 4004, but when we arrived we were given two double beds. I phoned the front desk, and we were moved to room 4021 within 15 minutes.

Room - When we arrived in our new room we didn't have cigars/rum/robes/slippers since they had moved us the room wasn't prepared. No sweat, maids and room service arrived as we were unpacking and brought us everything. Room does have a bit of a musty smell, but we brought an air freshener from home, and that worked nicely. The safe in the room is very nice, however my laptop didn't fit inside. The first day I hid it under the pull out bed, then after that I left it on the dresser. Maid service was done between noon and 4pm everyday and had fresh flowers, towel sculptures etc. Our first night I opened the mini fridge and broke a bottle of Sprite. I told the front desk the next morning, and the receptionist called the maid service immediately and the floor was swept and mopped in 15 minutes. I gave the maid $15 that day! We did leave $5 a day for the maid service.

Food - Mornings we went to the main buffet. Sampled everything to find what we really liked. Had an omelet (ham, cheese, onion), croissant, and banana bread everyday. There is also a juice bar with a nice variety (pineapple, guava, carrot, passion fruit, etc.). Had Frosted Flakes one morning - but the milk was a but warmer then my ice cold preference. Did not care for the coffee and breakfast, so we drank OJ...then Mimosas. Lunches we did at the beach buffet - the kabobs were fantastic and very flavorful. At the Italian restaurant I started with the carpaccio, and the steak - both were wonderful. In fact the carpaccio resembled what I would have gotten as a $17 app back home - it was fantastic. The next night we did Tex Mex. I ordered Chicken Burrito (very good) and can't remember my entree. Dave ordered the bacon wrapped filet - delicious - perfectly cooked. We also tried Le Petite Fondue, and ate, and ate, and ate. We were here for a birthday party for a woman we met in the pool. Eight of us all together and everyone loved it. Yes it did take 2 hours to dine, but fondue is a social activity in addition to a meal. We also tried the Seafood restaurant and ordered the grouper ceviche (fantastic) and the lobster. I had only one bite of the Lobster and didn't care for it. The manager came right over in order to rectify our experience - so I ordered another ceviche and LOVED it.

Grounds - immaculate, well maintained. Be careful, the stone pathways can get hot in the afternoon sun. The beach does have some occasional sea grass, but anyone complaining about it has never been to a NJ beach. Did NOT have a single mosquito bite.

Staff - very outgoing, they bend over backwards to accommodate needs. Nelson at the pool bar ensured that our drinks were always full.

Note to same sex travelers: This resort is very gay friendly.

Punta Cana Princess All-Suites and Spa Resort

We spent 6 wonderful days and 5 restfull nights at the Punta Cana Princess. The resort is beautiful. The lobby is open air and clean! The tile floors are kept spotless. Any questions we had were answered by the wonderful people at the front desk or guest services. They offer free internet service ,there was never a long wait. The tram service they offer to get to the other hotels are safe and smooth. Remember do not leave the hotel property!
The grounds are kept spotless also. Every morning while most guest are still sleeping the staff are hosing the sidewalks down and sweeping. The pool is kept clean and a nice temperature. The bar has stools in the water to relax on. The pool bar is a great place to meet other travelers, try a Banana Mama, or a Coco Loco. The rum is awesome. Our room was top floor facing the pool and ocean. The view from the balcony was heaven every morning. The color of the ocean is nothing I have ever seen before. (The Jersey shore will never be the same) The whole room has tiled floors so do use the fluffy slippers they give you or you will be ice skating across the room! The flowers by the sink everyday and the turn down service at night is so sweet. The maids were great ,what ever you needed they gave you. All you need to do is ask. The beach is kept clean and is never crowded the VIP beach beds were so relaxing. The food was interesting. We were so afraid at first to eat anything. We were cautious and stayed to the basics, rice, bread, steamed veggies, chicken, fruit, lots of fruit, Then as the days go on we found ourselves trying alot of different dishes. The Italian place was not our favorite there is something different with the cheese???? All the other places were nice. You need to just pick and choose and do not "pig" out! We drank bottle water the whole time, coke with ice and the mixed drinks. We did not get sick. We did love the deserts. The half of coconut with coconut pudding at the buffet place was great, as well the cakes and pies and cookies!
We did snorkle and parasail ,we booked it through the private boats on the beach. (Look for Pedro) It was great and a low price. I have been recommending the resort to anyone who is looking for an affordable and relaxing place to run away to. We did like that it is adults only. After visiting the other resorts next door with kids, wow what a difference to come back to ours. QUIET and CLEAN.
All we said on our last day to all the great people we met was "We do not want to go home!!! This is Paradise!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Punta Cana Princess in May and our experience was wonderful. It is a pretty quiet resort and a perfect getaway for couples, with lots of time to focus on each other.
We were very pleased with our room, it was on the top floor and we had ocean view.
the staff was very friendly and polite and we had no problems whatsoever.
The food was good and everything was always clean and well maintained.
I would highly recommend this hotel to couples who are not really into the party scene.

“Awesome resort!”

Punta Cana Princess All-Suites and Spa Resort

I totally disagree with nik128. We stayed here for our honeymoon and has an absolutely wonderful experience.

The staff is fabulous and very friendly. If you don't have washcloths, you ask for them! Same for towels. Also the beach house has towels and you can get news ones there. Our maid actually went out for us to the beach house to get them there because we didn't know we could exchange there.

We "broke" the bed - something was wrong with it, but the maid had noticed it in the morning (we hadn't said a thing) and some guys came to fix it up the afternoon. Airconditioning worked great. The room did smell but it smells like any other hotel on the beach - I mean it smelled like sand and water. I love that smell! Fance little things were put on the beds each morning and in the bathroom.

Beds on the beach were awesome. We had the VIP package (which isn't that bad people! $100 extra pp). This gave us a lot of nice little extras (not a better hotel room). The food was great and we could dine at a variety of restaurants on the resort.

The only annoying part was the vendors, but if you read other resort reviews, this is pretty common. Just look them in the face and say no, no, no, no until they give up. As soon as they realize you won't give any money they realize they are wasting their time and leave you alone. They only came on one time onto the resort.

The pool and beach were fantastic. Clean and fun. They regularly clean up the beach from seaweed as well early every morning. Ocean was great - not to rough and pool was awesome with swim-up bar. Really enjoyed our stay.

Wear sunscreen. We were taking malaria meds, but quit because they were making us sick. Got sick once from food, but if you have a sensitive stomach you can expect this.

All in all, it was an absolutely wonderful holiday filled with lots of wonderful memories.

“Go for a good time, just don't eat!”

Punta Cana Princess All-Suites and Spa Resort

2 of 5 stars
Buffalo, New York

I was a bit hesitant to write the following review based on the many excellent reviews I read prior to booking my trip to the Punta Cana princess. Many fellow reviewers stated that they had an excellent time, the food was wonderful, the beach, the beds, service, all of it wonderful. This is the first time that I stayed at an all-inclusive resort, so I had no idea what to expect and didn’t expect the Ritz. Due to the gut-wrenching illness I have endured for the past nine days, I will say this, go, if you love soft sand and clean beaches, excellent service, beautiful landscaped gardens, beach beds, clean pools with bars, and silly activities…BUT DO NOT EAT THE FOOD….or drink their drinks?

I cannot pinpoint the exact cause of my illness, but nonetheless, the food was the worst I have ever eaten in my entire life, and I am not a food snob. The main buffet is open for all meals…each of which have typical buffet menus…pasta station, seafood, meat, salad (or the attempt at calling whatever it was they were serving), desserts and a theme station which, for dinner, could be sushi, Mexican, etc. It is true that restaurants close on certain nights and there is no schedule, so you are then forced to go elsewhere or eat at the buffet. By the way, you do not need a reservation to go to this resorts restaurants. If you must eat at the buffet, it is bearable, but eat simply. There were insects flying around the sushi, salad and hot buffet stations that are not covered. It is also an open-air restaurant, so bugs love it and items were never properly refrigerated. Stick to breads and perhaps the pasta with no sauces. The desserts are actually good, so if you are brave, go for it.

The one plus about the food scene at the princess is that as a VIP guest you are allowed to share restaurant opportunities with the princess’ sister hotels. Caribe club and Tropical?? For use of these restaurants you must make reservations a day in advance. Out of the ones we tried, the Mediterranean was the best. The Mexican, much better than the buffet but DO NOT go near the Chinese restaurant…unless, you like super salty sauce…think soy sauce with a half cup of salt. We left before our meal courses were over. The Creperie is decent…how can you really screw up crepes, but be careful of the toppings you choose and you don’t need reservations to go to the Creperie.

Luckily, both my boyfriend and I did not get sick until the last two days of our trip, so it is really hard to tell what it was that did us both in, and he is a vegetarian. It could have also been the water, but we were told that all drinks were safe because the water is filtered, even the ice. The bottled water they give you does taste off, but not horribly and we drank it anyways.

Overall we did have a good time. The beaches there are amazing, clean, and the sand is super soft. If you are a VIP member (and I am not sure if everyone gets this right because it was the only option available when we booked), you get access to the lovely beach beds that line the beach. They are super comfortable and from time to time someone may ask you if you’d like a drink. You also have rights to premium liquor, but you really have to ask for it. Yes, the animation team can be really annoying, but not so much during the day unless you are around the pool area. Once they know your name, it’s all over and you will get dragged into their silly skits and games. We saw it happen over and over. The service itself is really great…the front desk, maids and most restaurant workers. And, the non-motorized water sports were decent, but did incur extra charges for certain activities.

Do go on an excursion or two to get you away from the resort. We went on the Bavaro Runners tour of Punta Cana and it was amazing. You get to see how locals live and work, and also see the countryside, which is so beautiful. I highly recommend this tour if you are curious as how Dominicans live their life. The speedboat and snorkeling tour was good too, I just wish there was a little more time to snorkel.

If you already booked your stay at the Princess, take my review for what it’s worth. As I said in the beginning, I booked my stay here based solely on the whole “I didn’t get sick, had a great time” reviews I read back in April. Perhaps the issue with the food is cyclical? We stayed during the week of July 9 –16th, and I really hope that future visitors will not get sick too.

It is a beautiful resort and everyone is super friendly. If you have a planned stay here, you will have a good time because we sure did despite the sick feeling the last two days. If you are thinking of visiting this resort, wait a few months and see if the “I got sick” reviews go away.
