My partner and I stayed at the Punta Cana Princess July 23-29, 2008. This was our first trip to DR and couldn't have had a better time. We did book Platinum Level.
Check In - No problem, we were sent to room 4004, but when we arrived we were given two double beds. I phoned the front desk, and we were moved to room 4021 within 15 minutes.
Room - When we arrived in our new room we didn't have cigars/rum/robes/slippers since they had moved us the room wasn't prepared. No sweat, maids and room service arrived as we were unpacking and brought us everything. Room does have a bit of a musty smell, but we brought an air freshener from home, and that worked nicely. The safe in the room is very nice, however my laptop didn't fit inside. The first day I hid it under the pull out bed, then after that I left it on the dresser. Maid service was done between noon and 4pm everyday and had fresh flowers, towel sculptures etc. Our first night I opened the mini fridge and broke a bottle of Sprite. I told the front desk the next morning, and the receptionist called the maid service immediately and the floor was swept and mopped in 15 minutes. I gave the maid $15 that day! We did leave $5 a day for the maid service.
Food - Mornings we went to the main buffet. Sampled everything to find what we really liked. Had an omelet (ham, cheese, onion), croissant, and banana bread everyday. There is also a juice bar with a nice variety (pineapple, guava, carrot, passion fruit, etc.). Had Frosted Flakes one morning - but the milk was a but warmer then my ice cold preference. Did not care for the coffee and breakfast, so we drank OJ...then Mimosas. Lunches we did at the beach buffet - the kabobs were fantastic and very flavorful. At the Italian restaurant I started with the carpaccio, and the steak - both were wonderful. In fact the carpaccio resembled what I would have gotten as a $17 app back home - it was fantastic. The next night we did Tex Mex. I ordered Chicken Burrito (very good) and can't remember my entree. Dave ordered the bacon wrapped filet - delicious - perfectly cooked. We also tried Le Petite Fondue, and ate, and ate, and ate. We were here for a birthday party for a woman we met in the pool. Eight of us all together and everyone loved it. Yes it did take 2 hours to dine, but fondue is a social activity in addition to a meal. We also tried the Seafood restaurant and ordered the grouper ceviche (fantastic) and the lobster. I had only one bite of the Lobster and didn't care for it. The manager came right over in order to rectify our experience - so I ordered another ceviche and LOVED it.
Grounds - immaculate, well maintained. Be careful, the stone pathways can get hot in the afternoon sun. The beach does have some occasional sea grass, but anyone complaining about it has never been to a NJ beach. Did NOT have a single mosquito bite.
Staff - very outgoing, they bend over backwards to accommodate needs. Nelson at the pool bar ensured that our drinks were always full.
Note to same sex travelers: This resort is very gay friendly.
