Me and my girlfriend decided to make Grand Lido Negril our first vacation together. We chose it because of the tremendous discount I get through my job with Superclubs, and it looked like from the website and pictures to be what we wanted. For the most part it, it was. I'll try to keep my negative feelings toward the airline separate from my review of the resort, but the 1 1/2 hour bus ride (if you're lucky) from the airport should be noted also. Like others on here, we were also greeted with wet towels and Mimosa's (nice start). They took care of getting us settled in our room right away, problem was it wasn't the room we had paid extra for. We were supposed to be "beachfront", but we wound up with more of an oceanview room. My girlfriend didn't have a problem with it at first, but when we got the room we were supposed to get, she agreed it was better. She also liked that we were on the second floor for fear of bugs in the room, which we read a lot of reviews stating, but had no problem with that. The room was nice, but the concrete walls and tiled floors to me made it seem cold, like a cave. It didn't help that all the lamps/lights in the room all had a fluorescent bulb in them. Not exactly the cozy feeling you want, we actually had to go buy candles and use them instead because it was bothering me so much. The bathroom is new, but poorly designed (watch your step getting out of the tub). The grounds of the resort I have to say are very nice, especially well maintained in the garden area. Definitely could use a little update on the modern side though, at least some paint and a little cement work. Now the beach area has a lot of issues. The beach chairs work fine, but the cushions they use are disgusting. They leave them out in the rain so the mold buildup and beating from the sun they take had me complaining constantly. Everyday we had to get 6 clean (if you want to call them that) towels, 2 for each chair and 2 for ourselves, even more annoying after it rains to do it again. I was also expecting a nice beach service were somebody is always coming around offering drinks, well the guy showed up every now and then, usually after I already went and got something from the bar myself. They do rake the beach every night which is nice, but they had some guy removing the seaweed every day in the same spot while the rest of the beach had a 2 foot layer right where the water started. Made no sense to me. Could have used like a little table with the chairs to put your stuff/drink on, would have been nice. They should pay a little more attention to the beach area in the future. The food and restaurants were very good. Very weird to just walk away from the table when we were done. The service and people were pretty much excellent, very friendly and attentive. We wound up spending another $350.00 on extras like jet-skiing, horseback riding, and Mayfield Falls. I would not suggest Mayfield Falls for anyone under 40, gets a little rough. Word to the wise if you didn't already know, do not buy anything from the gift shop, you'll find everything and more at half the price in the airport, including the liquor which I was stupid enough to put in my carry on and have thrown away in front of my face. Well the airline will get its own review, and trust me it won't be as nice as this. Overall we had a great time and made the best of any little issue we came across, but we will probably try another place next time for the price.
