We were looking for a dive operator for our 10 day stay on Brac and found Indepth or Brac Reef as the major players. We discovered that Brac Reef had a fixed dive plan and schedule (typical cattle boat operation) with only 45 minute dives. My wife and I have been diving for many years and at many places and were getting tired of the ridged diving schedule, after all we are on vacation not at work. We check into Indepth and found there schedule was more accommodating to our needs. They leave around 10AM and return sometime in the afternoon. There is no fixed dive times or profiles, it is what you want to dive. They don't dive at all the popular dive spots since that is where the cattle boats are. They dive at places where cattle boats don't go or frequent. That is not to say you won't see what the other divers are seeing since the sites are what can fit around the island. Craig, Carl, Katie and Coconut are all serious about safety and making sure their guest are enjoying themselves. If you want anything just ask, you can't be shy on their boat and expect to get what you want without asking. One of our divers took classes from Katie and enjoyed them very much. A typical diving day is to show up at the shop, announce you are there, take your dive gear to the boat or ask for help if needed. Have a very short wait for them to setup new diver's gear if not already there from the prior day's dive. Then leisurely climb on-board and head out somewhere that has good diving. They were very good at helping us on and off the boat with the dive gear. All you have to do is plant your butt on the side and they will put on your gear, no worries or rush. Once you are done with your dive and reach the platform they will help you up any way they can and take off your gear. They will also help you into the water with your gear. All you do is sit and they do all the work, if Craig gets too lazy just squirt him with the hose ~:).
The team really takes care of your needs and responds to any questions or issues you may have. My advise is to take care of all the reservations and money issues in advance or on the first day so you have all the business stuff taken care of and can now relax and dive.
Did I mention that we dove Nitrox and made some 85 minute dives with average depth of 45 feet. Try that on a cattle boat!!!!!
Bottom line is if you are tired of cattle boats that leave before you are awake and want more dive time, then don't hesitate to dive with Indepth. After all you are on vacation and need to purge the hustle and bustle of city life out of your system. Start relaxing and throw away the bloody clock! If you are budget tight think about your dive time, after all that is why you are diving. Cattle boats dive 45 minutes max for their price. Indepth charges more but they have almost twice the dive time. Both shops have the same commute time to dive sites, but Indepth lets you dive longer at the site. Now do the math and determine which place is the best buy for your money. I am very thrifty (boy does Craig know this) and that is why we dove with Indepth. If money is still an issue then you can reduce your number of dives with Indepth and still have the same bottom time in your dive logs as the cattle boats.
