“No Power, Bring a Candle!”

Taino Beach Vacation Club

Sep 12, 2008

We were in the Taino Beach Ocean Towers, which we were told were recently renovated and in the nicer section. My husband and I just want a clean room and friendly staff and I have to tell you to save your money with this place because it is the biggest dump I have ever stayed at!! If you expect lights, a/c, clean rooms, nice staff, and a decent location, this is not the place for you! When there is a storm the island shuts down the power for a little bit in order to prevent a transmitter blow out and we understood that concept. What we did not understand is that the casino we were standing in at the time of the outage and the surrounding hotels had power and our hotels power had been out for 6 hours! They claimed to not have a generator, although the lobby had power?! When I challenged them on this matter, they simply said "we don't have generators for the entire hotel and don't expect the power to come on for the rest of the night!" I expect a hotel to have a generator and I know it is a state regulation for safety purposes alone! Then we had to beg to get 1 candle and they didn't even have matches! Since there was no power and a/c expect for in the lobby, tons of angry people were crammed in there with nothing to do! The worst part was this happened 3 out of the 5 nights we stayed! We had to use a lighter at one point to get to our room located up narrow, steep steps in a pitch black hallway on the 4th floor! Also, the units were dirty and moldy, our toilets barely worked and we had to fight to get a clean beach towel! The pool was filthy and the food is equivalent to cafeteria food! The hotel is way out by itself and you have to take a ferry boat to get to Port Lucaya, where everything is! One day the guy never showed up and I almost missed my $170 dolphin encounter! After 20 minutes of waiting some kid told us, only b/c we asked, that the ferry was not coming this hour! Also, don't sign up for any water activities behind the hotel b/c they just broker them out to the beach behind the Westin and Sheraton. We signed up for a banana boat ride only to have to wait 30 minutes for a launch boat to pick us up in the ocean and drop us off at the other beach, then to wait another 30 minutes to find out we couldn't even ride because they were so backed up it would be another 30 minutes to get on! Come on, 1 hour 1/2 to ride a banana boat, when the guy behind our hotel said 5 minutes! We gave up and left! If you want to do activities besides wave runners you are better off going to the beach behind the Westin and Sheraton. I can't think of any reason why anyone would want to stay here when there are many other nice, affordable hotels nearby and in much better locations. If you want total disappointment in every aspect, stay at Taino Beach b/c that is the only thing they can surely deliver!

“Taino Beach: Beware!!!”

Taino Beach Vacation Club

Sep 11, 2008

I would like to thank tripadvisor for this website! I get great information here..and usually am a very relaxed traveler. We are not hard to impress and can roll with whatever. But, this place is by far the WORST PLACE I have ever stayed!!! From beginning to end..it just plain sucked!
When you arrive, it looks nice and inviting as a first impression. But then it begins. We got to the Bahamas early, so we checked our bags in the holding area with the man who made it very obvious that you are in his way and inconviencing him with this process. I will say the pool looks nice and is big with a grotto swim up bar. (when it's clean!) We got into our room around 4pm, it looked nice at first. Then we noticed 2 microwaves on the counter, neither one worked! They just took up space. The bed had a sheet, no comforter! The floor, the sinks, the refrigerator, and the place was really dirty!! Mold lined the shower, and the mirror in the bathroom was heavily tinted orange..I've never seen anything like this! You could'nt even see your skin tone....and there were no other mirrors, so we got ready via our hand held clear mirror.
Now, I know this is a timeshare property, but I traded a beautiful 5 star resort for this dump! We don't expect perfection with timeshares...but in all honesty...this place is poorly managed and the worst property I have seen! The beach was fine..but Lucaya water sports does'nt seem to be helpful if you want to book with other, better, companies. Also, there is a water taxi to take you into Port Lucaya for $5 round trip...not too bad when they show up! Some other friends with us booked a dolphin encounter..and were to take the taxi in the AM, the person never showed up. They had to take a cab, and almost missd thier $170 excursion!
And now to the cake topper.....does'nt it sound fabulous to go the the Bahamas and not have any power?!!!! Well if it appeals to you..this is the place! For 3 days, power went on and off. One time it was out for 6 hrs. in the very dark evening...and the front dest has no candles or flashlights! (so they said) But, amazingly the front desk had power and AC...they told us to our face they only run the backup generator for them and not the entire hotel.."it costs too much." In the Bahamas the power does go out with rain/storms...but every other hotel, we know, we went to them, ran their generators. The 2nd day/night this happened, we begged for a candle and would not leave the front desk until we got something...and wha-lah...."oh we have 1 left" So we at least got one eventually.
The towels are another issue...you have to travel around the resort to get beach towels..because the lady is never where she is said to be. Then we you do find her she does'nt have any available. As we walked away from this situation, planning on using our 2 bathroom towels, a women ran down the hall waving $5 stating "oh...so-in-so...we need more beach towels..can you put some in our room.?" The towel woman replied..."no problem sweetie!" Apparently you have to buy service!
A tip for future travelers would be if you are unhappy, as we all were, let RCI know...we got 2 weeks back! I think that was the best part..I will definately return to the Bahamas...but I will stay at either the Sharaton or the Westin.
Remember, when RCI says there is a gold crown place: Taino beach resort...just say "no" and save yourself the hassel. I would not return if it was free!

We arrived on friday,to be shocked that there was no power, lites out from 10 oclock in morin to 2pm.The rooms are nice ,but you can't get double beds in room or kings size. The floors in rooms are marble very nice ,but it is also in shower ,very slippery when wet with no hand rails. Now the pool area was very pretty, but a mess it won the dirtiest pool award, bottom of pool was filthy, cups ,cans u name it was in it.the pool had a haze to it. After numerous complaints the hotel finally work on it .It's a sin the area has lots of potential. On our last nite there guess what the power went out.

We booked three rooms through RCI and upon arriving were horrified at our rooms!! Two of the rooms smelled like smoke, they were not properly cleaned (our bare feet turned black after walking on the floors-ugh!) and our rooms adjoined other rooms with a very thin door to seperate them. You could hear everything the other people in the other rooms were doing-college kids partying at all hours, t.v. blaring, and just plain talking. We tipped a guy named Valentine (activity director) to try and get our rooms changed-he took the money and ran-We tried for 3 days to get our rooms changed and only got the run around ! We ended up leaving the dump and checking into the Westin-a wonderful change! The Taino Beach Resort (Ritz) had NOTHING to offer! The beach and restaurant were terrible-the staff at the restaurant were horrible-they make their place sound like a palace, but it is a palace from hell!! Avoid this resort!!!!! RCI will be getting a phonecall from us! Also we encountered 4 other couples that were equally horrified at this place -it is NOT A RESORT!!!! Oh, forget about getting clean towels and sheets too-they were always out of them!!!

This was suposed to be a gift the second that we walked into the room we thought that were in Bedrock from the Flinestones the only thing that we enjoyed was the conversation from the bell boy. The room was just nasty, I pulled back the covers to sleep in the bed and found sand all over my clean bed after I just checked in. My sleep was interupted due to an uncomfortable mattress, I rather sleep on the beach!!! Also, my sleep was distrubed by a leaf-blower that was practicaly outside of my door at 7 AM, does anyone have manners anymore? PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO SLEEP!
As I looked around on the floor there were black stains in several areas, I dont know if it was mold or what. I went to dry myself after taking a shower to find a big yellow stain on my clean towel. The toliet did not flush properly. Outside on the balcony there was this tub looking thing with water sitting inside for what i have no clue. Over all have to say that there are a lot places to stay on the island and TAINO BEACH is the worst of the bunch. On a scale of one to ten I give this a negative two and that's just being nice.
