“Great Location”

Visited the Sheraton Our Lucaya for a long weekend with my husband. Our trip was paid for with Sheraton points, so I can't comment on the price. The biggest plus to this resort is the location. The beach was just a short walk across the pool area. The outdoor facilities were clean and well maintained. The room was of adequate size. The bathrooms are in need of renovation, but not horrible. The Barracuda restaurant for breakfast was a buffet that was good. We ate dinner at Iries which was a little pricey, but an excellent meal and the staff were so friendly. We ate lunch at the Prop Club, the burgers were good. However, $55 for two burgers, fries and four beers we thought was pricey. The good thing is you can walk over to the International Market for lunch at Subways, or fast food to offset some of the cost of food. Also, a trip to the liquor store to buy your own liquor will save you some on liquor. There are things to do at night such as going to the International Market for live music, bars, or to the casino. The casino doesn't compare to the size of the casinos in Atlantic City or Vegas, but a good time nevertheless. Overall, it was a great trip....great beach and pool, not crowded, friendly staff and locals, and a relaxing weekend.

“The good, the bad and the ugly...”

I stayed with my wife and little boy for 7 days at the Sheraton, where I payed for the all inclusive package. Our stay could be summarize as follows.
The GOOD: the hotel and other facilities are nice and clean, and the people are VERY nice...
The BAD: at the restaurants the service is not consistent. Some days your meals include a drink and others the same meal is served alone. We were also told halfway through our stay that water WAS NOT included in the all-inclusive package...
The UGLY: on the second day of our trip my wife, my boy and me got sick (food poison) from eating at the Prop Club. We filed a complain with the hotel, and were told that management was going to look into it. Five days later we left the hotel but were never updated even after inquiring about it several times.

In summary, I wouldn't reccommend staying at this place.

I went with a friend to Freeport, Grand Bahama and stayed at the Sheraton at Our Lucaya - Port Lucaya. I read some negative reivews, but we found for $166/night including service charges & taxes this was quite a deal! I would not say we were in luxury accomocations, but the room was very clean, beds were very comfortable and they provided lots of pillows. We also had a mini refrigerator for our snacks and beverages and we had fantastic patio with chairs and a table in our Ocean View room on the 5th floor. I don't know what there is to complain about! We did not opt for the all inclusive plan as there are many affordable, great restaurants across the street at the Port Lucaya Market ranging from very casual to fine dining to suit anyone's taste.

The staff was VERY friendly and upon arriving at 12:30pm we were immediately checked in and a bell hop shortly followed with all of our bags even though check in wasn't until 3pm. The housekeeping staff was also very friendly, always greeted us with smiles and provided whatever we asked for. The beach staff is wonderful as well. Always there to provide fresh towels and they even bring lounge chairs right to you on the beach in the location of your choice. The beach & water was beautiful. We enjoyed the long walks to the infinity pools in front of the Westin as this provided even more great scenic shots of the beach & ocean not to mention a little exercise! However, there are two large pools right at the Sheraton, but we just enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of the inifinity pools - they were never crowed, not even on the weekend.

For meals, Zorba's is great and very affordable. We had breakfast and dinner there. RumRunner's is fun for cocktails at night and La Dolce had great seafood & pasta and is a little more upscale. If you scuba dive, go with Unexso - very friendly and professional staff. They are located at the marina adjacent to the Port Lucaya Market. We had no problem walking there and back with our dive gear. Overall wonderful trip and we can't wait to go back!

“Great value”

Well I have to admit, booking a vacation to the Bahamas in the middle of hurrican season was a little risky, but I read the reviews and decided to take a chance. Wonderful weather and the perfect time to go.

I was looking to get away on a quiet beach and read a few books and veg with my boyfried. This was the perfect time to go, for us. Thought I would say, that if you are looking for a lot of people.partying, etc. during this time, don't go to the Bahamas in September or October since it is their off season (per the locals), We still had a great time and meet great people!!!! A lot to do,

I loved Grand Bahamas ...beautiful beaches, great pools and great fun.

If you are going to book this hotel...I highly suggest getting the all inclusive package. Although since it was not very populated between the Westin and the Sheraton they only had a few places to eat. The Prop club had great food!!!!

I love the locals!!!! Bahamians are the best with information, very nice, very helpful and always appreciate you coming to their country. They know that tourism is what helps feed their economy and they let you know and thank you for coming.

The nice thing was everything was in walking distance. Don't waste your money on a rental car. You have the market right across the street, and the casino is right next door. Good times!!!!

Highly suggest the Dolphin Swim...that was the best ever. I will never forget interacting and KISSING the dolphins.

“Very Disappointed”

Sheraton Grand Bahama Resort at Our Lucaya

Sep 19, 2008

My and my husband just returned from a vacation for our anniversary on Grand Bahama Island, and were very disappointed. I am a big researcher for vacations we take and did my fair share of investigating before we booked and left.
Well to begin TAXI's : we decided against renting a car for the simple fact that driving is on the opposite side of the road, so we went the taxi route..... very very scary our taxi driver from the airport drove about 80 mph honking and passing every other taxi cab that had left before us. It was a $19 ride not terrible. We took a taxi to dinner one night with another couple $20 there and $20 back so $40 to just go eat @ a restaurant that was terrible Ruby Swiss don't waste your time or your money. On the way back to the airport the taxi driver was much worse I thought the van might break down at any minute due to the check engine light being on. So weigh your options we were bored being copped up at the hotel, it was to expensive to just take taxis everywhere and renting a car means risking your life with the other crazy drivers and not to mention all the round-abouts on the island.

HOTEL; When we checked in we were supposed to have a traditional room, but they upgraded us to a pool view room for free, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was average; large, fairly clean but definetly needed a bathroom remodel. The rusty light above the shower was very unattractive, but all and all not terrible but not luxurious. The Westin seemed much more renovated. As for hotel amenities the pools were nice.. the Westin pools were much nicer with cushion chairs. My only complaint with the pools was the slide was closed the entire week we were there and many of the pools were closed off and on. The hot tubs were also broke. The beach was nice a lot of seaweed and junk washed up from the previous storm and the water was murky.
RESTAURANTS: Very bad we never had a meal under $90 for dinner and none were very good. We ate lunch at the prop club a couple days the burgers were awful.... in general ground beef there taste spoiled. Pizza @ the Prop Club is very delicious. The snack bar at at the Sheraton had good cheese fries and Billie Joe's was average. Breakfast was the best meal we ate @ Willy Broadleafs every morning except one. They had the best pastries and coconut french toast. We ate at Baraccudas one morning not nearly as good but much cheaper only $12 a person compared to Willy's $20 a person. As for dinner we had average food @ Irie's. We went across to the market place which almost everything was boarded up and closed for the whole month of Sept. very disappointing. We ate at Caribbean Cafe the food was dry and stale. Le Med where we had food that made us sick afterwards, and Zorba's your best bet on the island. They had amazing friend shrimp there and were reasonably priced. We also had pretty good food at the Ferry House small portions and expensive but good. The worst was Ruby Swiss our cab ride off the resort awful food and they overcharged us. The two restaurant we wanted to try China Beach & Churchills were closed for the month of september. What kind of resort closes restaurants for months at a time?
ACTIVITIES: We are big snorklers so we were looking forward to what some say is the best carribean snorkling.... well maybe if all the snorkling excursions weren't closed. I called every day we were there and every day they said the same thing we aren't going out today maybe tomorrow, so needless to say we were very bored.
All and all if you like sun, sand, pools and don't care about eating , leaving your resort or snorkeling then this is the place for you. A few tips take cash because most credit card company's charge you and international surcharge every time you use your card. Also do not go in Sept. everything closes down and they go on vacations then. Also there is no free 800 calling there so wait till you get there and go to the marketplace and buy a phone card for 10 bucks very reasonable that way to call home.
