Just returned from a fabulous honeymoon at the Tucancun. My husband and I stayed there from Aug. 7-13th and we cannot say enough about this wonderful resort. We cannot wait to go back next year. It was very hot during this month, but worth it. The entire staff was very friendly (all speak English-which helps) and the hotel itself was very beautiful. All areas were kept very clean, including the 3 large pools and our hotel room. I don't know why there were a few negatives about this place. I did not see any bugs or dirt and thought that the food was very good with a great selection. It is no "5 star" resort, so people should not expect to have baked stuffed lobster and filets every day. For the price you pay- the food was good and reasonable. There was a large variety every night at the buffets as well as at the a la carte restaurants (there are 2) to choose from so those that made bad food remarks must have been pretty picky eaters if you ask me. You could always find chicken, beef, pork, or seafood daily. An important note--If you are looking for night life- this is not the resort for you. It is pretty quiet at night and the pools all close at 10:00 PM. There is only 1 bar open until 2AM- which is the indoor lobby bar. All the others close pretty early (main pools 7PM and a the smaller pool at 10:00), but downtown is only a 7 minute bus trip (don't take the taxi-way too much money!) down the road and there is a lot to do until 4AM if you want to really party. And boy is it loud, crude, lude and crazy downtown- especially at Senor Frogs- which is recommended for all of the young people ages 18-early 30's (18 is the drinking age). The best part about the downtown bars is the open bar rule all night for one low price of $15-$25 US dollars that most offer. What a deal!! I would also recommend the "party hopper tour" if you really want to have a good time while other people get you drinks with VIP service all the way for 7 whole hours of fun. What I don't recommend is going to any of the Mayan Ruins tours in the hot months and if you do- don't go during the afternoon and bring A LOT of water (more than you think). My husband and I became dehydrated and ill one day from one of the tours so beware of the heat- it creeps up on you fast. Drink water!!!!
In summary, the resort caterers to mainly families and low key couples. It was a relaxing and enjoyable vacation that was much needed. Many people come from the USA or the UK. The beach is very small since the hurricanes have hit the area a few years back- so the photos listed are not updated. The width from the resort wall to the beach is only about 2 beach chairs- so don't expect a big beach. Some resorts have a better beach, but most of their beaches have also shrunk down due to the storms. Don't forget--Not much goes on at night except for some entertaintment by a talented group of people doing shows nightly at 9PM in the theatre and there is only 1 lobby bar that stays open late. So don't go here if you want more of a party atmosphere.
Feel free to email me for more questions regarding my stay. I hope that this review helps you.
