“Gorgeous and lots of wildlife”

Moraine lake in my opinion is much nicer than Lake Louise. The views from the top of the rockpile are magnificent.

There are lots of chipmunks and ground aquirrels around and we saw a black bear up close and personal on the road out. He was right beside the passenger side window eating berries. Beautiful.

If you are of a delicate constitution go to the loo at Lake Louise before you come, the toilets here are the hole in the ground ones and stink to high heaven.

Moraine Lake is amazing! I could have stayed at the top of the Rockpile for hours, taking it all in! As it is, there are other worthwhile activities in the area--canoeing (for rent at Moraine Lake Lodge) and hiking. In fact there are five notable hikes that start there, not including the easy trail around lake. We chose the Consolation Lakes trail (branches off the Rockpile trail). The trail mainly meanders through a wooded area along a small river, but there is some rocky terrain thrown in for variety. At the end of the trail are the Consolations Lakes, small and crystal clear with rocks and boulders to clambor over, and with mountain peaks looming.

After a morning spent hiking there is also a cafe to grab a quick bite (fairly reasonable prices) and a little shop to browse in.

I thought Lake Louise was beautiful, but once I saw Moraine Lake it became my favorite place in the Banff area, hands-down.

Moraine Lake is a must see for every one visiting Banff National Park. No words or photos can describe its beauty. You must see it yourself. A tip for visitors: try to arrive early in the morning before the crowds come. If you're lucky, you will be able to take pictures when there is no wind, and get perfect reflection of the mountains. Along the lake, there is a short, easy trail, which can be completed less than an hour.

Prior to leaving Australia Moraine Lake was the Lake i was most looking forward to seeing and what a awesome site it is especially from the Rockpile. When you get to the top of the Rockpile you have to just sit down and take it all in. It is a sight that will remain with you for the rest of your life.

This is my husband's favourite of the Canadian lakes he has visited. The best way to see the lake is to take the path at the side of the car park to the top of the pile of rocks (the moraine) at the foot of the lake.

Unfortunately we went in the mid afternoon which was the worst possible time for the position of the sun which was shining straight into the camera lens. Next time we'll go there first to get our best chance of taking great pictures.

The water is stunning blue/green colour when seen from above but closer to the edge of the water you can see that it is crystal clear.

The is a path along one side of the lake but we didn't have time to explore it. There is a lodge at the lake, nothing like as grand as the Chateau at Lake Louise but the cafeteria and gift shop were well stocked.

The lake attracts a lot of visitors so if you like it quieter go early or late in the day.
