We booked our trip with very little lead-time, so availability in Jasper was very limited. Having always wanted to stay at the Alpine Village, this was a wonderful opportunity. Initially weary of the high costs, I saw what we were paying for as soon as we arrived.
The grounds are immaculate, views are breathtaking and the staff are friendly. A lovely hot tub is a perk which most of the cabins in the area don't have. There is a children's playground on-site: small, but with a mini 'log-cabin' which was a big hit with the kids. The large grassy area by the main building is a perfect spot to kick a ball around or play other sports (check out the little toys/games shed nearby for gear). It's a great central location for checking out all Jasper has to offer, and wonderful to just walk across the road and sit by the Athabasca River while you take in the views.
In recent years, the cabins have been refurbished/upgraded. Our deluxe family unit (#18) had been redone in 2004, allowing a loft to be added. I thought the entire unit had been built then, so was surprised to learn that the main floor was original to the complex. That did explain the one very minor issue I had with the place: the bedroom only has a double bed, whereas the upper loft has a queen and twin. I thought it would have made more sense to have the queen in a private room, but obviously they were working with the space restrictions from cabins built decades ago. New appliances in the kitchen and new bathroom fixtures throughout. Nice bedding and wonderful touches throughout that truly fit in with the mountain lifestyle (be sure to take note of all the inspired light fixtures). Housekeeping was absolutely impeccable.
In all, this is likely my favourite accommodation in Jasper, and I've stayed in over 75% of the hotels & cabins there. I think I even prefer this to JPL, which surprises me slightly, as I love that Fairmont property. I would love to stay here again, but due to the price, this locale will probably be saved for special occasions in our family. Would highly recommend it to anyone passing through the area.
