“Great hotel in terrific location”

Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver

5 of 5 stars
Baltimore, Maryland
Sep 5, 2008

Just back from Vancouver last week. My wife and I stayed at the Metropolitan Hotel. It is in a terrific location- you can walk to all of the important parts of the city very easily. The rooms are very nice and we did not have any problems with noise from nearby construction even with our window left open at night. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Oliver at the concierge desk is great and able to arrange any tour or trip that you want. The hotel has a nice indoor swimming pool on the third floor. Also on the third floor they have internet available - free for the first 15 minutes of use. We didn"t eat at the hotel but for breakfast we ate at the White Spot which was only a block away and more economical. There are lots of restaurants nearby and several malls across the street which have food courts if you want to grab a quick meal. Would highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Vancouver.

“Solid hotel”

Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver

Sep 4, 2008

Nicely situated near Robson Square in the heart of downtown Vancouver, the Metropolitan offers decent value compared to some of the area's other major hotels.

Reception was fast and pleasant, and the concierges were friendly if limited.

The room was large enough, with a comfortable bed, clean and well appointed. There is a well-maintained pool, and some, albeit not elaborate, facilities for a business travelers.

The hotel's restaurant, Diva, lives up to its reputation as among the best in the city, at least at dinner, and provides up-scale room service. But this is a city where you can dine well in all price ranges, so it's unnecessary to pay top dollar.

The negative reviews are not completely unfounded. Like other parts of town affected by pre-Olympic construction, the Met does have some noisy times. With only a pair of elevators _ although they seemed fast enough _ congestion can be a problem at busy times. I'd happily stay there again, but Vancouver offers lots of alternatives, so you might check the deals, as well as construction schedules.

“Loved it”

Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver

5 of 5 stars
West Bloomfield, Michigan
Aug 29, 2008

My husband and I stayed at the Metropolitan Hotel for two days in August. We loved it. I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews about all of the construction going on so I contacted the hotel and requested a room on one of the higher floors, as far away from the construction as possible. I also told them that we were celebrating our anniversary.

We got to our room, which was on the top floor of the hotel, and there was complimentary cheesecake waiting for us with a card wishing us a happy anniversary. We heard very little construction noise. Not enough to even wake us in the morning. By the way, they are doing contruction everywhere in Vancouver in preparation for the Olympics.

The room- the bathroom was AMAZING. Huge with a separate shower and a soaker jacuzzi tub. The bed was very comfortable and the TV (not that we spent much time watching it) was a nice flat screen. The hotel advertised that all room have ipod docks, but ours did not. Not sure if they would have brought us one if we would have asked, but we didn't need it.

All in all, we loved the Met and would definitely stay there again!

“Excellent Hotel”

Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver

An excellent hotel in downtown Vancouver. There was some building work but we couldn't hear it at all. The swimming pool is clean and changing rooms are super. We had a junior suite which was large and very clean. It's in walking distance from Gastown and Stanley park.

“A little bit of luxury”

Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver

Well what can I say - we loved this hotel. We went on a recommendation from family, and they weren't wrong! Friendly, helpful staff who can't do enough for you and who treat you like royalty. A special mention for Doug the concierge who did lots for us. The hotel is in the perfect location so you are well placed to walk most places. Robson St (for shopping) is 2 minutes one way and Canada Place is 2 minutes the other way. The hotel looks fantastic and has a boutique feel. We had a lovely room on the 17th floor which was stylishly decorated and had a large marble bathroom with sliding doors. The was a separate bath and shower. I loved the Molton and Brown toiletries that the maid left for us. We stayed for 7 nights and the room was cleaned to a high standard every day. Probably the only downside is that you look out onto office blocks. I could see people at their desks hard at work. The drapes stop people from seeing into the room. There is a lovely swimming pool and jacuzzi and separate men's and women's saunas. Only the men get a steam room. It took us a few minutes to find out how to get into the changing rooms, but we got there in the end! You need to use your key card twice. The food at the hotel was nice. We never had breakfast at the hotel, but we did have a meal at Diva, which was amazing, and we had room service. Overall I would say a superb hotel that I would recommend to everyone looking for a bit of luxury.
