Cannot recommend this B&B highly enough - all of the positive reviews are accurate. Stayed here for 3 nights in early August 2008. We had been in Vancouver and it was just too hot and busy so we decided to take the sea plane (wonderful and worth the price) to escape and stay with Ian and Ann. As this was a last minute booking availibility was limited so we ended up in the penthouse suite. Location is great - far enough away from Victoria to be quiet but close enough to walk to or a few minutes drive - the surrounding houses are lovely - very historic.
The Penthouse is an enormous apartment which a full kitchen, dining table, sofa, chairs, huge flat screen TV ( and I mean huge!) and then a separate bedroom with queen bed and a walk in wardrobe. There are limited views in summer of the ocean - but in winter would be great as the leaves will be off the trees - in summer you look at a canopy of leaves which is very relaxing! There was also a nice bathrom with a deep soaking tub. Bed linens were lovely and fluffy towels provided. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Robes were also provided. As my husband and I are noise sensitive the penthouse proved to be the perfect choice as the apartment was very self contained and quiet.
As other reviewers have said the B&B is very comfortable and relaxed - it felt like a home away from home (espiecally when you have been travelling a while), with plates of delicious home made cookies, cans of soda, tea and coffee always available free of charge- and proper sized cups for a good cup of tea - teapots also availalbe for the UK folk! In additional there was always fresh fruit for guests to nibble on, bags of crisps and snacks - and free bottled water - just help yourself. This is very rare and one of the things which sets Abbeymore apart from the rest. The public areas were very comfortable with log fires and comfy seating.
Food was amazing - b/fasts a delight. I'm vegetarian and that was no issue and imaginative dishes were produced which I would choose to eat at home, and were of restaurant quality. Each day featured a new gourmet delight - freshly baked croissants & scones, fresh fruit with vanilla yogurt and then a hot dish - 2 home made and totally wonderful courses with as much tea and juice as you can drink. If that was not enough the hosts are wonderful happy people. B/fast is served to you and tables are laid with linen and nice silverware - as the weather was good we ate outside. Nothing is too much trouble and both Ian and Ann are so welcoming and friendly - I asked if they had any feather pillows and by early evening said pillows were on the bed - and had been bought specially for me (thank you Ian!). In addition Ian gave us great tips on where to go and what to do - we took his advice on whale watching and got the best boat (eagle wing)and great whales - and they booked it all for us at no charge. We also got great recommendations for afternoon tea at Butchard (fantastic) Gardens and good tips on ferries to the gulf islands.
In addition there was a PC and free internet access and a library of books for guests to dip into and swap books as required.
Our stay was the best of our trip and I totally recommend this B&B, and I am fussy!. We went on to stay at Sooke Harbour House (see separate review) and to be honest whilst it was a lovely location it was not a patch on the hospitaility and the food we experienced at Abbeymore and we wished we were back at Abbeymore!
