We stayed at this hotel for two nights Aug. 18 and 19th. It is in an excellent location and we found it to be very family friendly. We were, however, disappointed with a few things. We stayed in a Deluxe Room - tastefully decorated with newer furnishings and comfortable beds and pillows. The beds have duvets which is nice - but they do not have duvet covers on them. A plain white flat sheet is placed under the duvet and on top of the duvet - leaving the duvet itself exposed when the sheets move around. I can't imagine the duvets are washed after every guest so we found this to be a little off-putting.
Although the room itself was clearly renovated and updated, as was the sink and shelving area in the bathroom, it appeared that the tub and shower area were in their original form. The grout around the tile was dirty, there was thick and poorly applied caulking around the tap adn tub, and the slip guards in the tub were dirty. The laundry drying cord in the shower was broken. There was a flimsy metal public bathroom-type toilet paper holder attached under the sink cabinet - and as with most public bathrooms, it was easier to take the roll off the holder than to try to make it work.
We had requested a fridge and although it was not there upon our arrival, it was brought up to our room immediately when we called down about it. It was was very large and spacious for a bar-type fridge.
On the second level there is a large enclosed supervised kids activity area. We just took a quick tour so I can't comment on the childcare or scheduled activities, but it looked well laid-out with lots for the younger set to do.
The family pool area was disapppointing. It is very outdated and the pool is about the size of a backyard swimming pool. There are plastic chairs around the pool but getting one is nearly impossible in the evenings when the pool is busy. The evening we were there, the towels had not been replenished so we arrived with nothing and had to go back up to our room to get towels. Beware that there are height and swimming ability requirements for the waterslide. Our 4 year-old was in tears when she learned she was too short for it. Although the hotel advertises the slide extensively, we never saw anything stating the height requirement so were not prepared. The teenagers at the pool seemed to love it.
We ate at the pub and the food and service were good.
Overall our stay was good and the location can't be beat. The most disppointing thing for us was the pool area but the kids were fine with it and if you don't have kids, you can enjoy the adult pool upstairs which we heard was nicer.
We paid $139.00CDN a night through Travelzoo.
