I stayed here for my birthday as well as my one year anniversary with my boyfriend and I was so upset when I got there. The parking lot is so tiny that it feels like only Tonka Toys would fit properly. If you have a big truck or van good luck trying to fit in their parking lot. The breakfast that is included in the stay consists of orange juice and dry cereals. Not impressed! Also when we finally got to our room it was in the basement. I went to look outside and there was nothing but a brick wall outside of the window. Very dissapointed again. The room was clean and suitable but not what i was expecting. They also claim to have elevators but they aren't elevators at all they are lifts the size of small closets. I didn't trust it at all so we took the stairs. I am a size three waist and I could barely fit inside the elevator let alone bring my boyfriend and our luggage. Like i said we felt safer taking the stairs. I dont reccomend this to anyone unless you are prepared for the above or looking for a place to crash after a party.

“good location great price”

This hotel looks charming from the outside and definitely has quirks as others have said. It is a great location and a great price. Downtown, quite neighborhood, across the street from the subway and walking distance to shopping all for more than 50% off from the Marriott up the street. Breakfast is enough to get you going but there is a little breakfast/snack stand by the bus stop up the street that has good breakfast sandwhiches for cheap. McDonalds is on your way to shopping so that is an option too. I bought groceries about one block away at an organic mini-market. I had a king bed, large comfortable room. The bed was a bit more firm than I like, but I slept well. I didn't notice the metro noise as others have said and I was in the basement too. I don't care what my view is in any hotel, I'm there to sleep, not to take in the scenery from my room. The free wireless was fast and reliable so that was a nice bonus. I would definitely stay here again, mostly due to the great location and reasonable price for the accomodations.

“Be careful what you wish for”

Clarion Hotel & Suites Selby

This hotel looks wonderful on its website. And some rooms may well resemble the photos. However, if you book a special rate (as we did, through AAA), you may wind up (as we did) in the basement, in a very simple room whose only window -- screwed shut -- looked into an interior laundry/maintenance area. Yes, it was clean and quiet, but the place was worn and tired: one small, rickety elevator, numerous steps to negotiate to get to that elevator (your roll-aboard won't help you here), internal security doors, a crowded, unpatrolled outdoor parking lot on a busy streeet, and a dismal breakfast offering (also in the basement). At least it's relatively close to the Toronto subway, which we could "feel" in our room. Probably a good example of "You get what you pay for."

The hotel is very comfortable and clean. The rooms are a good size with a large washroom and clothing closet. There is a hair dryer and a iron/board in the room. Each room also has a coffee pot and replenished coffee/tea. We actually really liked the hotel because we didn't need to ask for anything.

We did not however find the staff helpful as my husband asked if he could use the microwave and was told by a male staff at the front desk
that they didn't have a working microwave (?!?!). We had also been promised a microwave and fridge in our room when we booked. However when we checked in they weren't in the room and were out of each. Should they get one for us we were going to be charged $10 each.

The breakfast was adequate but not very good. I would suggest they leave hard boiled eggs in the shell so they could stay warmer, cover the bread and stop using stale croissants. The juice and cereals are good.

Can't beat this hotel for area as it's across the street from the Bloor/Sherbourne subway line and the Sherbourne bus runs right in front of the hotel.

We'd stay here again but get breakfast elsewhere.

“Great place to send visiting parents”

When my parents came to visit me in Toronto I sent them to this hotel. Not only is it a block away from where I live, but it's across the street from the subway station, in walking distance of the shopping on Bloor Street, and one of the more inexpensive hotels near the downtown area. Plus I knew my mother would love the old mansion that houses the hotel. My parents asked for a room with a queen bed and ended up in one of the suites with a fireplace and a jacuzzi for the same price. They seemed less than enthusiastic about the breakfast, but there are plenty of yummy places for brunch around so they didn't mind too terrible. For a cheaper hotel in the same location, try the Isabella Hotel down the block.
