I always look to tripadvisor to help me figure out where I should stay. I have never been steered wrong until now. I can't believe that the hotel I stayed at is the one that got good reviews from other members. The 1st issue was the location. I travel in many cities including NYC without any problem and I must say that this area made me feel very unsafe. While all other areas of Toronto that I traveled in did feel very safe, I can't say that about Chinatown. It's dirty and is a major hangout for homeless people. There were always about 5 homeless people hanging out and sometimes begging about 10 feet from the hotel entrance. At night they squeegie people's car windows (without asking 1st and then expecting people to pay ofcourse). I would always take a taxi back and have them drop me off right in front of the hotel. I would hurry in, but felt very unsafe because in order to get to the hotel, you 1st must go into a vestibule area (with no hotel staff) and wait for the elevator to leave the isolated area. The hotel lobby is on the 2nd floor. The 2nd issue is the cleanliness. I can't believe the # of reviews that claims it is new and sparkly. No way! It's dingy and the carpeting is very stained. Once inside the room, even thouh the carpets are somewhat stained, the sheets and bathroom were clean. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. I would never stay here again.

Super 8 Toronto was a find. The hotel is in China Town and an easy walk to downtown Toronto. The hotel is modern, clean and very well maintained. Great breakfast and free Internet in Lobby. Hotel stores luggage and is helpful with advice. No noise issues even though facing main road.

For the price, this property is unbeatable in Toronto.

This hotel is an excellent find. The hotel iabove a Chinese shopping mall so some rooms look out onto this but it closes early and thick net curtains are in the rooms. The rooms are very new and kept clean. The air con is powerful enough for these large rooms and the beds very comfortable. The location is very near to a tram stop that runs along Spadina Ave. from one metro station to Union station at the other end crossing numerous other bus and tram stops. Even without the public transit most of downtoen Toronto is an easy walk away.

Superb value for the quality and location.

This is an affordable hotel in a great location. I walked all over Toronto from this location. Not a great hotel if you plan on spending time in the room (especially since my drapes opened to the inside mall and I didn't want people looking up at me!). But as a "home base", it is wonderful. Friendly counter staff, nice breakfast (cereal, etc), and easy access to all parts of Toronto. Street cars right outside, plus taxi's if needed. As a single woman, I was very comfortable at the hotel and walking (at 6:30 a.m.) to my conference hotel and back at night. As with any city, I did not walk alone after dark, but that had nothing to do with the hotel.
