We stayed at the Arran House Hotel for a week in one of the ensuite rooms on the main floor. It was by and large a pleasant experience, but there will always been some amount of shock as to what $200 USD per night will get in London. Believe me, I did a TON of research to find a unique hotel in a good location for $200 USD per night or less and the Arran House Hotel was my choice.
For our arrival into London, we had arranged the taxi service through the hotel as we were getting in at night and this was our first time to London. However, after an ungodly wait to get through customs at Heathrow, we ended up paying the cab to wait for two hours. That taxi ride cost about $150 USD total, which was absolutely insane. But, it was customs fault, not the taxi. Which brings me to another issue - my husband and I vowed NEVER to travel into Heathrow again for any reason. The crowd was on the verge of rioting and people around us were literally crying as the times for their connecting flights came and went. I have never had a worse experience going through customs, and this involves customs at Houston airport, which is oh-so-charming as well. But I digress........
Back to the Arran House Hotel. It's in a great location, just a short walk to numerous tube stations and bus lines. We enjoyed the Marrborough Arms pub that was down the street as it had pretty economical meals and standard pub fare. We ate there a couple of times.
The breakfast at Aaran Hosue Hotel was awesome and it was great to be able to fill up on food before heading out to site-see for the day. The hotel also has an outdoor courtyard area that you can hang out in or eat your breakfast outdoors. The only drawback to this was one night when people seemed to hang out there until pretty late, talking loudly. Our room had a window directly looking out onto the courtyard so this may be why we were bothered by this.
The only issue we had during our stay, and we stayed for a week, was that when we returned one afternoon the door to our room was left slightly ajar by the maid serivice. Luckily nothing had been taken and the hotel is kept quite secure. The side door that we used to access our room was kept locked at all times and the only way you could enter was with a hotel key.
We had a nice stay at the Arran House Hotel and I would recommend it.
