“Small hotel, great location”

Mercure Paris La Sorbonne

Part of Mercure chain and offering good standard of accommodation. The service was pleasant and helpful, the rooms are clean, small but well equipped, bathrooms compact. The breakfast buffet is adequate. There is no restaurant but several cafe/brasseries within a couple of minutes walk offer food throughout the day.
The location is excellent, in a quiet street but only a few minutes from the St Michel RER station which is the crossover of lines B and C. Walking distance to the Seine, Notre Dame and Musee d'Orsay (recommended)

“Much better than some other reviews led us to believe”

Mercure Paris La Sorbonne

Booked this one in a hurry then saw some of the other reviews and wished we hadn't gone for the cheap web hot deal which brooks no cancellation!

Fortunately fears unfounded. Location brilliant - small street right opposite the Sorbonne, down the hill from the Pantheon and 300 m from the RER/Metro. Were initially offered a room on the ground floor which we refused. Then got one on the 6th floor which had terrific lateral views over the rooftops of the Pompidou centre and the Pantheon.

Room nothing special but slightly bigger than average for Paris, perfectly clean, good strong shower. Lavatory rather high off the ground for those us with shortish legs! Pillows are not good - we immediately asked for 2 more which came pronto. Staff very helpful.

“Never go there !!!”

I spent 1 night in this hotel with two friends and it was a nightmare. The room was not clean, blankets with steams. Old furniture. We were three in the room and it was so small that we could not move. We immediately went to the reception and asked if it was possible to have another room. People at the front desk were unfriendly, - especially one named Fanny - and seemed not surprised that we have this opinion but for response we get "here you are in Paris (just in case we did not noticed I suppose) And all the rooms are the same. If you want to leave, then leave, it suits us perfectly" but as we paid via Internet we had to stay one night (account already debited) and in addition had to pay the difference between the internet price and normal price without reduction which was 229 EUR. Otherwise they would debit the account for the second night. Could someone imagine that ?
I am quite sure that they do not know the meaning of "friendly" or "commercial" or "clean up a room".
Well NEVER go there for your safety -

“Loved it”

Myself and my son stayed in this hotel on a weekend trip, it is located just beside the university and has alot of activity going on. Really nice hotel, staff very friendly and helpful. Room was not huge but we didnt have to climb over furniture to get around. The bathroom was quite large and really modern. I would have liked a tea/coffee maker in the room. You can get breakfast in the morning for €14 each which was a buffet and set us up for the day. Our view overlooked the university and it was really lovely. It is located just off the main road and is easy to walk around and go to all the various sites. I organised a hop on hop off bus trip which was excellent.

“Nice hotel, Incompetent Service”

Mercure Paris La Sorbonne

Sep 27, 2006

We picked this hotel (stayed 9/19 & 9/20) because of it's location in the lively Latin Quarter of Paris. The Sorbonne University is located in front of the hotel and the streets are alive and safe til the wee hours of the morning. Inspite of the activity, our room was very well sound-proofed. The hotel is modern with a bar and a small lobby. Our room seemed smaller than the usual boutique hotel rooms you would find in Paris but we managed to inch our way around the room.. Having read the reviews, we made sure to call the hotel and find out if the air conditioning had been fixed (it has) but alas, the ice machine was still out. We called each night (and you would think there would be some impetus to fix it) but kept being non-apologetically directed to the local brasserie for ice. Nicholas at the front desk was excellent and the breakfast staff was good--but that is where the service stops. There was a taxi strike on the morning we were to leave and when I called down to Veronique (front desk) to ask about a limo or private car, she informed me there were no such services in Paris. I couldn't believe it and asked her repeatedly and all she could suggest was the Metro. We ended up going through the internet to book a limo service and when I offered the tel. no. to her for other guests, she informed me that she "forgot" and that she did know of such a service. There are certain amenitites and services all hotels are expected to know of and provide but I was disappointed at the staff's coolness and nonchalance in being so unresponsive to our needs. I had a distinct feeling that when we voiced our few requests, we were an inconvenience to them. Nice place, but go elsewhere if you want service.
