“Ooh!”

Sport Hotel

Mar 6, 2008

I read the reviews here and at Venere, and everything seemed OK so I took the plunge and booked.

Basically its a cheap budget hotel, the only good thing is the price and its close to a metro.

I felt rather irky there, the beds were too soft, the decor was older.

I would recommend this for hostel dwellers and for people who aren't too fussed but looking for reasonable, cheaper hotels.

Because accomodation contributes a lot to the enjoyment of my holidays, I wouldn't stay here again personally.

Heard mixed reviews, but generally sounded good so took the plunge. Price 130 Euros for 2 people for 2 nights, plus additional 7 Euros PPPN for breakfast.

Hotel was easy to find right near exit 2 or Michel-Bizot on Metro line 8. Not central, but only one change to get to city center. Clean, tidy, welcoming and VERY friendly staff. Let us check in at 10am instead of 1pm (cleaned room when we got there),

Only down sides were a) walls are thin, so could hear next rooms TV slightly. BUT, certainly not enough to keep you awake, nor make a complaint. Been in a LOT worse than this. b) breakfast was nice, but not worth 7 Euros. Typical French breakfast, my opinion is to eat out.

But, room was nice, we were at the front, heating was perfect and adstable, small (but clean) ensuite bathroom with really good shower. Fresh linen, everything worked ...

Don't get me wrong, it was no palace, but was more than worth the money, and I have been in 4* English hotels (£150 per night) and had a worse stay than this.

I got a card, and if I'm in Paris again I will stay here. So definately recommended. Want a budget hotel, go for this ...

“Family retreat”

Our family of 5 (2 adults/3 kids) stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We had the ground floor rooms (102/103) which were not adjoining but shared a common courtyard exclusively. Both rooms had a large, newer bathroom en suite. Hotel is convenient to Metro Line 8 (but requires transfer to many sites) and staff is friendly. Only complaint, bakery next door (!) uses machinery in the wee hours of the morning, which could be heard thru the walls.

“where is our money??”

Sport Hotel

Apr 9, 2007

I have been to Paris last week with my girlfriend. We booked a room for three days in Sport Hotel. The 3rd day my girlfriend left some money at the room (she forgot to take it), and when we went back to the hotel at night, after we had visited the city, she discovered that the money had "disappeared". The money were in a little bag in one of her trousers in the woredrobe, so somebody was looking for money and other "valuable" things in our room. I think that if the management of the hotel cannot take care of customer´s things, there should be at least some "security box" for saving money, documents, jewels, etc.

Of course I do not recommend this hotel

Dear Sir,
We are very sorry for this mis adventure of yours. But Im very suprised, as I have been managing this Hotel for 20 years and we never had story like that. I have been using the same personnel for years and no complaint really ever happenned.

“it's been a while But”

Yes I know it's been a while since we stayed here (Nov 2005) at the Sport Hotel and it was only for 1 night and yes things can change but we had a good experience here and I thought it was worth while sharing.

The Sport wasn't our 1st choice of hotel. But while in london we decided to "do" Paris for the weekend at the last minute. We didn't know the geography of Paris at all and just went on the reveiws of TA. We phoned a couple of hotels which were either booked out or didn't/couldn't speak english. The Sport Hotel was the 1st hotel where the reception spoke english and had a free room. We arrived early evening after an early morning eurostar journey and a full day of sightseeing feeling very weary and apprehensive. We'd spent the day hopping on & off the L'open tour bus and found 1 of there routes took us fairly close to out hotel. It turned out to be a 20 - 30 min walk past Bercy sports stadium and under some rather spooky looking railway arches but then we came into a charming little suburb with tree lined streets and oodles of cafes & restaurants and supamarkets and all manor of other food shops. This was where the parisans lived - no tourists around that we could see. How wonderful - we couldn't beleive our luck.

The fellow on reception warmly welcomed us and we gratefully made our way to our room to relax for a bit. We (2 people) crammed into the worlds smallest lift and got out on the worlds smallest landing which was just a normal landing in a stairway!! Careful as you open the swing out lift door you don't knock over someone already on the stairs. AMAZING. Our room was quite a good size and very clean. The linen was spotless, the bed comfy, the bathroom surprisingly spacious and immaculate with a shower with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Actually the whole bathroom looked pretty new.

After a brief rest we headed out to find something for dinner. We were spoilt for choice but our non existent french was no problem. After walking up & down Av Daumesnil for ages trying to make a choice we ended up at a bistro directly opposite our hotel. The bisrto was called L`Apprenti Brasserie and was just fantastic. Our young waiter spoke as much english as we spoke french but we muddled our way thru the menu and both ended up with fantastic meals, a great red wine and a to die for creme brulee.

Breakfast the next morning in the small but basic dining area consisted of croissants, rolls, cheese, butter & spreads, coffee and OJ. not huge but more than adequate, besides you don't want to pig out at brekky and then be too full to enjoy a mid morning pastry before lunch do you?

We checked out and were walking back to the L`Open bus stop at Bercy and noticed we walked past at least 3 metro stops. But not knowing then how Paris' metro system worked and having prepaid for the bus we kept going but I gather the Sport is only about a 15 min metro ride to the centre of Paris.

The Sport is a clean, friendly, cheap, smallish hotel on a reasonably busy but amazingly quiet street. In an area full of charm & character with few tourists. Highly recommended.
