“Over hyped!”

Royal Hotel

I have to go against the crowd with this one I'm afraid.

Whilst I recognise the hotel is very central and the room rate is quite cheap (with a good breakfast included) it was not a great experience for us.

Our check-in was a poor start and things did not improve greatly from there.
The staff member on duty could not have been less interested and as such was rude. This attitude continued (from the same person) the following day when requesting information. This was quite off putting and presented a very poor image of the hotel.
We did note that the staff on other shifts were seemingly pleasant but did not have much dealings with them.

The room was well sized and generally clean but the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Pillows squish down to become very thin and towels are thin also.
Our room had large windows but sadly not enough curtain to cover them entirely so the early morning sun was flooding in to greet us.
Additionally the room was hot and stuffy as there is no air con to combat the summer heat. We had a rear room so were able to open the windows for some relief. All contribute to an uncomfortable stay.

The current rate is fairly economical so I understand you get what you pay for. That said, we did stay in cheaper hotels elsewhere in Germany that offered a far superior experience in terms of overall comfort, quality and staff professionalism.

I am returning to Munich in October and will try elsewhere.

The hotel was very clean and a good size. The breakfast was amazing. Although it is located on a street with numerous strip joints, with the windows closed at night you hear no street noise (open however you may). The hotel is very close to the train station and pretty close to the main shopping strip. The staff was also very nice. I highly recommended it, and would stay there again.

Stayed three days here in August when it was quite hot, but got the same good deal that everyone else got - 84Euro a night. It's busy here with large numbers of foreign visitors. Buffet is well-stocked including a hot dish for those who insist, and German style breakfast for those who are content with what the locals eat. I looked into the kitchen for a moment while requesting a special extra and the staff appear to be observing safe food prep practices even behind closed doors, which is more than you can say for some of the restaurants you find in Munich. And they have GREAT super-auto coffee machine that does a proper steamed milk!

Front of hotel looks onto street, so noise is offered free with the room. Back of hotel looks onto courtyard shared by other businesses and hotels with construction occurring at least daily in one of them, so noise is offered free with the room. Your choice. With the windows shut - no problem.

Rooms do not have individual smoke detectors for those who have a concern. It is not required by the building code here on renovations - only on new construction. Front desk is open 24hrs. No refrigerator in our room, and room safes are the old kind that do not erase the code when the master key is used by staff to unlock the safe if you have forgotten your code. This means that housekeeping staff (all of whom have a key) can get into your safe without you knowing. We had no problems, and I trust housekeeping staff just about anywhere I stay, but if you have a concern...

It's warm in August. We were on the 6th floor, so by leaving windows open, and by opening our door to the hallway at the same time, we were able to get an excellent draft to cool the room down somewhat before going to sleep, but sometimes only a cold shower before bed will help. At least the water really is cold here.

It's a great jumping-off point to see the Innerestadt, being only a couple of blocks from Karlsplatz-Stachus. Grocery stores everywhere, but nearest Nord-See for quality fast food is a long way away. My only complaint!

“Nice Location, Good Value!”

Royal Hotel

Hong Kong

We went to Munich and stayed in the hotel for 3 days and 2 nights. We booked the special offer of 84 Euro per night (including breakfast) and found the hotel excellent for this price! As we have quite a lot of experiences in staying in and enjoying services of Asian hotels, which facilities, gifts and services are excellent, we did not expect much in hotels in Europe.

There are a few points to comment on =)

Location: The location is really nice. It takes only 1 minutes walk to the Main station (hbf) of Munich, where U-bahn, S-bahn and DieBahn can be found). The hotel is located at the middle of the street and the station is located at the end of the street (so you can imagine how close the distance is). For people who do not join guided tours, the location is nice, as we can return back late at night without worrying much about travelling.

Room: The hotel is quite new (maybe furnished before). Room is spacious and clean and tidy.

Toilet: Clean, with good lighting and quite new facilities. Strong shower with plenty of hot water. We weight much on the quality of toilets and we are satisfied with it.

Breakfast: The continental breakfast serves fried eggs, sausages with breads (freshly baked with frequent refilled). Cereals and drinks like juices and milk are served as well. There are choices of fruits and jams. p.s. Croissants served are really big =p We booked at the official website of the hotel and the fee included breakfast (booking in other websites do not include breakfast, as far as we observed).

Reception: The reception is located on the 1/F, quite small but fine. There is 24-hour service with free hot water. We found the reception very friendly as we travel from England to Germany without bringing suitable electrical adapter. The hotel has a tray of adapters (probably brought and left by people) which we found two suitable one for our DC chargers. We highly appreciate this! (as we have psychologically prepared that services in European hotel are mostly limited).

Price: Not the lowest but pretty reasonable for the quality of services and room.

Dinning: There is a 24-hour MacDonalds' at the HBF (main station) and also a large food court.

Security: Should be ok, as the hotel located at the street full of hotels. So lighting is enough even you return back to the hotel.

All in all, we recommend this hotel, for people who can afford a reasonable price with good transport.

“Best value, excellent location”

If you don't have time to read a long review, I just have to say - Book it, it's the best value you will find!!! We just came back from spending 4 nights and I am surprised by some of the negative reviews, since our experience was very positive.

I exchanged emails with the hotel staff before my stay and they were prompt to respond and helpful. Once we arrived, the staff was friendly and nice all the time. The room was simple but big enough and clean. The hotel location and the free internet were a big plus. Just a couple of blocks away from the main train station and a few minutes from MarienPlatz and other major attractions. The breakfast was surprisingly good and very complete, they offered cereals, cheeses, meats, fresh breads and pretzels, fruit, yogurt, and the coffee was excellent. All and all, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I would definitely stay there if I go back to Munich. Great value, great location, great breakfast!!!

If you are spending more than a couple of days in Munich, I recommend you take the day tour to the Royal Castles, Linderhof and Neushwastein. We took Panorama Tours and had a great time (nice ride and great tour guide).
