“Disappointing”

Hotel Pulitzer, a Luxury Collection Hotel

2 of 5 stars
New Jersey
Oct 19, 2008

Hugely disappointed. Reserved this hotel b/c it was a Starwood Luxury Collection. For part of the luxury collection, it offered little luxury. Very overpriced. Our room was the size of a walk-in closet basically. This is not surprising being in Europe but given what we paid we expected more. Furniture was old and looked beaten up. Bed was nothing special, rather uncomfortable. TV was tiny.
We had a view of the courtyard which was pleasant.
The bathroom was excellent though - Floor was heated, very clean, good water pressure, and plenty of hot water.
Staff was generally unhelpful although one very nice staff person brought my wife extra stroopwafer cookies one evening.
The hotel bar was lively, but the hotel was otherwise. It is located in a nice neighborhood.
Overall, for what they charged I was expecting more.

We had made reservations for this hotel but there were several problems and the place did not fit my needs. To the front desk's credit they very professional and understanding when circumstances forced me to cancel my reservation.

“Great Hotel”

Hotel Pulitzer, a Luxury Collection Hotel

Oct 15, 2008

The Pulitzer is just a great hotel with a very convinient location, just a few walking minutes to Dam Square and directly on a canal.
Although it is not a small hotel, it has so much charme and individuality, something I would expect in a small boutique hotel with just a few rooms. Due to its architecture (over 20 small Grachten-Houses were combined to one hotel) the Pulitzer has so much charme.

Throughout Amsterdam everybody was very friendly - so in the hotel as well. We felt very welcomed throughout the entire hotel.

The breakfast buffet was okay and offered several variations, but was not amazing. Therefore my favourite spot in the hotel was in the Restaurant in front of a very large, satire painting. Really funny!

The barkeeper was very friendly and also showed a very good memory of his guests. After the first day he knew our name and room number throughout our stay.

From the Concierge we received a great Restaurant Tip for the Restaurant Proeverij, just 5 walking minutes away.

“Loved this hotel”

Hotel Pulitzer, a Luxury Collection Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Oct 2, 2008

We stayed at the Pulitzer in Amsterdam for 3 nights from 9/20-23. It was one of the best hotels we've stayed in. Our room was newly renovated and very quiet. The down bedding was so comfortable that it was difficult to get out of bed in the morning. The courtyards are charming, there is beautiful artwork in the common areas, and free coffee in the morning outside the dining room. Internet is free in the business center only. The hotel staff were very accommodating. We did book this through Starwood and used our points for 2 free nights and one night at a reduced rate. The hotel had no problem getting our reservation correct, unlike some other reviews I read on this site. The location is great, 5 minutes from the Anne Frank House, on a beautiful canal, and next to the 9 Streets shopping area. If you are interested in going to the Anne Frank house, get your tickets on the internet before you go and you won't have to wait in line there. The hotel can sell you tickets to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum. We enjoyed a half-day tour to see the windmills in Zaanse Schans and the fishing villages of Volendam & Markham. We used Lindbergh tours and highly recommend them, even though the Pulitzer deals with a different tour company.

“Is this the same hotel as some of the other reviews?”

Hotel Pulitzer, a Luxury Collection Hotel

4 of 5 stars
London, United Kingdom
Sep 25, 2008

Slightly bemused by the mixed reviews - luckily I didn't check tripadviser before booking. My second visit, and both times I was pleased with the service and the room.

I agree with comments about value - some of the rooms can be small for the money, and i did move rooms because of this, but it is a very old building, so the character compensates. The beds are usual starwood quality ie. excellent.

Location is ideal - in one of the nicest parts of Amsterdam, and they have their own canal boat for tours.

Not a sensation, but I still like it, and I will return.
