We organised a wine tasting tour to the Hunter Valley with Boutique Wine Tours whilst on holiday in May.
It was an early start as the mini-bus arrived at our hotel at 7.30 am. We picked up some passengers along the way and during the trip Rae, the driver, was very entertaining.
We arrived at the first winery, Ernest Hill, at about 10 am and started our tasting. Ernest Hill is a very small winery produce some lovely wines - you must try the dessert wine!
Our next stop was Iron Gate Estate, a large and very modern operation. The owner is originally from Kent and he conducted the tasting which was very informative and entertaining.
We stopped for lunch at the Hunter Valley gardens and had time to visit the cheese shop as well as McGuigans.
The last winery was Tallavera Grove which was in a stunning setting and is used for a lot of wedding receptions. We then headed back to Sydney and although we got caught up in a lot of traffic made it back to our hotel by 6.30 pm.
We thoroughly enjoyed the day and would not hesitate to recommend Boutique Wine Tours. It was very good value at $99 each.
