My wife and I stayed here for a week at the end of July. We were travelling with our daughter so we wanted a suite. This was the only reasonably-priced suite we could find for our trip.
It's location near the GWU-Foggy Bottom metro stop is excellent. It's also minutes from Watergate (CVS, Safeway, café, etc.) and a 7-11.
The renovations were never an issue, although one elevator was covered in a protective covering. The hotel is definitely dated and worn, however, the renovations should take care of the that. That said, it did the job and provided what a family would need in a suite.
The staff were friendly and helpful. However, whenever we really needed assistance (at check-in and check-out) there was only a single person on duty.
I had to get into the safe-deposit box in the office before check out and no one was available to help. The bell hop even tried to open the box to no avail. I would've done it myself, but I didn't want to interfere. I waited for 10-15 minutes before some guy got off the phone in the back office.
Our room had an adjoining door which, unfortunately, led to noisy neighbors in the next room. That door did not provide much sound insulation and they woke our daughter up a couple of times at night.
The rooftop pool is small but adequate and provided much-needed relief from hot days walking around the Mall. You did get to see some close-up views of plans landing at National airport.
Room service was decently-priced as far as hotels go and the breakfast food was fine and punctual.
