We just came back from staying at the Washington Suites Georgetown and I had to put in my 5 cents. In this day an age of extremely expensive hotels that cater to families, this is a must. Whenever we travel (family of 4-2 adults and a 4yr and 2yrolds) we always must have a two room suite. Not only does it save our sanity during the day (most of them have two tvs) but at night since we do not go to bed at 8:00pm, the kids go to bed and we stay up.
Back to my review.
pros:
- two room suite with pull out, kitchenette with everything you might need and plenty of stores and restaurants nearby. Stock up at Trader Joes and you will save lots.
- FREE breakfast. regardless of what they might serve. IT IS FREE. Coffee, cereal, milk, juice, pastries, hard boiled eggs, bagels, etc.
- great location. regardless of where you are going a bus, circulator or train will get you where you need to be
- great rates for the suite
- clean and decent sized rooms for a suite
now for the cons, which are not negatives, but just my impression of the hotel and staff
- not overly friendly staff. We checked in and the person was corteous, but that was it. Through out our stay, the only other person that I saw smiling and/or greet us with a good morning was the maid, which we made sure we took note for since we appreciate the little things.
- when we checked out, the person was, again, fine, but too quick to move on to the next person even though there were two of us and she had not finished with me yet.
- as noted in other reviews, the heating/cooling not the best. Since there is no way to control the temperature(yes, there is a control, but you only have the option of two settings, high or low and even on low it is too cold. my children where freezing in the sitting area while they were sleeping so we just turned the air off completely so the hotel saved on us since we were gone all day and we turned the air off during the night. The bedroom side does get a little too warm but we rather be warm than my children freeze.)
-as in other comments, there is a lot of construction. We requested a room on one of the top floors and facing the back of the hotel, we got the top and facing the front of the house. Not wanting to move, we stayed. If you do not open the windows, and close the curtains, the noise gets muffled. And I am a very light sleeper.
When I read reviews for hotels I want to know how the bad reviews will affect my family. In this case, the pros definately outweigh the negatives and we will be back. Unless we find a better deal with the ammenities that we look for.
