“Great Positon”

Embassy Suites Washington-Convention Center

Husband, I and 14 year old daughter stayed here for three nights 22nd -24th July. First time to Washington DC and chose this accommodation based on reviews written here.

We were not disappointed. Check in was quick with no queques, and room consisted of a kingsize bed and a double sofabed in the longe area. There was no view from the window - you just overlooked the next office block which is being built.

The free breakfast was good, only one morning was it crowded, but even then you didn't have to wait long and there were plenty of tables. Compliments to the omlette chef! He has at least 6 on the go at any one time and never forgets what you want!

The managers cocktail hour (5.30-7.30pm) each evening was much appreciated after a hard day sight seeing. There didn't seem to be a limit on how many drinks you had, and there were always plenty of nibbles, and tables to sit at.

The hotel is in a good position for trolley stops, China Town and a good selection of restaurants. Legal Fish is our favourite and is about a 10 min walk.

“Not as good as other Embassy Suites”

Embassy Suites Washington-Convention Center

Jul 30, 2008

I have stayed at many Embassy suites, and generally enjoyed every stay. I did not enjoy this stay and think this hotel is currently rated much higher than it should be (10th in DC as of July, 08). First thing to note is that the communal areas (lobby, reception, breakfast area) of the hotel are very small given the number of guests. It is not like the usual design for an embassy suite, which generally have large communal areas. The lobby area is noisy and claustrophobic. The breakfast is good but crowded. My main complaint was the registration desk, which seemed very badly managed. When I arrived, the area in front of the desk was crowded and it was not easy to tell who was in line for service and who was just standing around. There were about seven people behind the desk, but only two seemed to be dealing with customers. The rest seemed to be staring at screens and avoiding eye contact with customers. It later became apparent that several of these were trainees. The main issue that soured my experience is that I was checking in at 1.00pm and was told the room was not ready. OK- I have had this situation before and usually have had to wait half an hour at most, so I politely asked for an estimate on how long it would be before the room would be ready. I then informed in a snooty manner that the check in time was 4.00pm and that they could not give a time before then. The person dealing with me seemed to recognize as soon as they said this that it was not consistent with their customer service training. They put on a smile and said that as a special favor they would take my number and call me as soon as the room was ready. Of course we did not get the call, and after returning to the hotel at 3.40 found our room was ready. We got the keys and went to the room on the top floor. The key would not work. I returned to the lobby leaving my family at the room. Again the registration was chaos. When I eventually got someone’s attention, I was told my room had been changed from the one originally assigned to us and we were now on the seventh floor. So I had to retrieve my family and move to the new floor. The room we were assigned had dirty dishes and glasses left outside and the there was a lot of wear on the furnishings. The mini kitchen area was in drastic need of renovation. The soundproofing, as noted by others, is very poor and we were awoken by a crying baby in the next room at 2.30am. For the money I think you can do a lot better than this hotel, which is well below the standards of other Embassy Suites and highly overrated in the Tripadvisor listing of hotels in DC.

“Do not stay here!!”

Very poor hotel. We booked directly with the hotel and had to wait 7 hours for them to clean our room when we arrived. The place was a mess and everyone kept yelling that they were a mess due to 'full house last night'. Well, what is so crazy about that? Very nasty staff and the manager David D. was unable to be found after I left 7 messages for him. Again they said,'sorry for the inconvenience, full house last night'. You are UNABLE to eat the free breakfast because of the horrible crowds and poor service. And, like all the other reviews of this hotel, the walls are paper thin and very noisy. Just look elsewhere and do not be tempted by this location. Shame on you embassy suites!

“Great stay”

Embassy Suites Washington-Convention Center

Jul 26, 2008

We enjoyed our stay, but are curious how Traveler108 got an $82 rate. I found a rate on the internet, called the hotel directly, and they matched it. Sad to say, it was much more than $82! However, the excellent breakfast, manager's cocktail hour, and location of the hotel made it worth the money. We were able to walk around town and felt comfortable, even after dark. A tour bus picked us up at the front door and took us to Union Station, which was another plus. The short walk to St. Patrick's Church on Sunday morning was also another feature of the location. On the down side, the pull-out sofa bed was very uncomfortable and the pool was small with cloudy water. The lack of parking was disappointing, but the valet service was fine.

“Fradulent charges on our credit card”

Embassy Suites Washington-Convention Center

Jul 16, 2008
1/2 found this review helpful

we stayed here for one night in May 08 but, a look at our credit card statement showed that the hotel had charged us not once but three times -- and for 7 nights!!
and, the most shocking thing was they charged our credit card for the third time a day AFTER we had checked out of the hotel!!
the management took a couple of days to return our call and respond.
they have assured us and we are awaiting the reversal of the fradulent charges to our credit card.
otherwise, it is a great hotel - great room, great location, great breakfast, etc etc. but, beware of credit card fraud
