“Wonderfull Experience!”

Embassy Suites Washington-Convention Center

We are a new blended family and this was our first family trip. I used Tripadvisor to guide me through to our hotel from my final list of 5 hotels.

I booked our hotel and gave the reservation clerk my list of preferences. I am a germ-a-phob. The room has to be near sterile, a room with a view and away from the elevator. Based on some of the posts I read here, I also inquired about the status of the pool. Cloudy water is a big no go!

Like many mom's I felt everything had to be perfect (No pressure). My husband warned me the trip would be great but of course not perfect.

THE ROOM
We got to the hotel 4 hours late, called ahead to notify the hotel of our new arrial and it was no problem. Our room was very very nice and the room was clean. I, of course, brought my cleaning supplies and recleaned the room to my impossible standards. For readers who share my germ issue this recleaning process took 10 no more than 15 min. and I tackled all surfaces: bathroom, appliances, remotes, door handles etc.

THE POOL
Still cloudy.

THE STAFF
Wonderful, friendly, and helpful.

THE BREAKFAST AND MANAGER'S RECEPTION
Awesome! The breakfast fueled our day and got us started on the right foot. The gentleman who made our omelets was cheerful and amazing. Single handedly he cooked all orders simple and complex. Our omelets were cooked to perfection. He was amazing to watch. I was very disappointed he was not being tipped better by the hotel guests. We went down for breakfast at 8am the wait for our omelets were very short. The breakfast selection is sure to please all.

The Manager's Reception was the perfect way to end the day. The bartenders were friendly and importantly made excellent
drinks.

FINAL COMMENTS
Excellent value! Clean room, excellent breakfast, to bad the pool is still cloudy.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights - August 8-10, 2008 with my 8 year old son. Check in was a breeze. We were greeted by Leanne, who was simply delightful. Although we arrived at the hotel very early (around 9am), she suggested pre-checking us in and contacting us via my cell phone when the room was ready. We went to the restaurant for a bite to eat and not even 1/2 hour later we got the call that our room was ready! A welcome surprise. The breakfast buffet was disappointing with the crowds. I'm sure the food would have tasted better if we had a chance to eat it when it was hot. The lines were so unbearably long that by the time you got to your table (if there was one) your food was cold. We were not able to enjoy the made to order egg section, as it was extremely busy and waiting in TWO long lines was not an option with children.
We were given a room on the 15th floor which was fine, but rather dark with the lack of natural light coming in due to the the tall building right next to us which was our "view". The room itself was spacious enough. The bed was very comfortable. The carpet was rather dingy...we wore socks while in the room. The "kitchenette" was very simple. A fridge, microwave and a coffee maker. No utensils, no dishes. The room noise that was commented on by other reviewers was experienced by us too. I don't think it is the walls so much as the air vents leading right into the bedrooms! I think they finally went to sleep around 5am...we had to get up an hour later!
Ordered room service once. Pizza was great. The rest was just average.
Didn't use the pool, but took a look and it was very small.
The lobby is small, but I would choose a bigger room any day over a big lobby. The cold water offered in the lobby was welcome after a day of sightseeing. The gift shop was smaller than expected, though. The computers that were set up in the lobby for internet are a great idea. Very convenient in location and also provide printing. We never had to wait to use one.
Overall, I would say this hotel is average. Wonderfully convenient location for sightseeing, however a little overpriced and over-rated for what you get.
A three star rating for this hotel would be appropriate.

“Family Friendly Embassy Suites”

Embassy Suites Washington-Convention Center

4 of 5 stars
Milwaukee, WI
Aug 5, 2008

Picked this location because it was newer than the one on 22nd St. Was concerned because they only had double beds, and my husband is 6'3" and I'm 5'10" and we have 2 sons, 11 and 7 years old. The beds were great, very comfortable despite the fact that we are used to sleeping on a Queen bed.

We did not experience any difficulty checking in or with noise levels in the hotel and it was a busy weekend. The key for breakfast is to get there at an offpeak time - not on the hour or 1/2 hour. The omelettes were super!

The hotel is in a great area for restaurants. The best kept secret is that it is on the DC Circulator bus route which takes you to the Mall or out to Georgetown for only $1. Why they don't advertise that is beyond me. The metro is also convenient, but if you are going to see the sites, the DC Circulator is the way to go. Saved us 8 blocks (total) of walking with our 7 year old - which at the end of the day is alot!

“Great Positon”

Embassy Suites Washington-Convention Center

4 of 5 stars
Horley, United Kingdom
Aug 5, 2008

Husband, I and 14 year old daughter stayed here for three nights 22nd -24th July. First time to Washington DC and chose this accommodation based on reviews written here.

We were not disappointed. Check in was quick with no queques, and room consisted of a kingsize bed and a double sofabed in the longe area. There was no view from the window - you just overlooked the next office block which is being built.

The free breakfast was good, only one morning was it crowded, but even then you didn't have to wait long and there were plenty of tables. Compliments to the omlette chef! He has at least 6 on the go at any one time and never forgets what you want!

The managers cocktail hour (5.30-7.30pm) each evening was much appreciated after a hard day sight seeing. There didn't seem to be a limit on how many drinks you had, and there were always plenty of nibbles, and tables to sit at.

The hotel is in a good position for trolley stops, China Town and a good selection of restaurants. Legal Fish is our favourite and is about a 10 min walk.

“Not as good as other Embassy Suites”

Embassy Suites Washington-Convention Center

Jul 30, 2008

I have stayed at many Embassy suites, and generally enjoyed every stay. I did not enjoy this stay and think this hotel is currently rated much higher than it should be (10th in DC as of July, 08). First thing to note is that the communal areas (lobby, reception, breakfast area) of the hotel are very small given the number of guests. It is not like the usual design for an embassy suite, which generally have large communal areas. The lobby area is noisy and claustrophobic. The breakfast is good but crowded. My main complaint was the registration desk, which seemed very badly managed. When I arrived, the area in front of the desk was crowded and it was not easy to tell who was in line for service and who was just standing around. There were about seven people behind the desk, but only two seemed to be dealing with customers. The rest seemed to be staring at screens and avoiding eye contact with customers. It later became apparent that several of these were trainees. The main issue that soured my experience is that I was checking in at 1.00pm and was told the room was not ready. OK- I have had this situation before and usually have had to wait half an hour at most, so I politely asked for an estimate on how long it would be before the room would be ready. I then informed in a snooty manner that the check in time was 4.00pm and that they could not give a time before then. The person dealing with me seemed to recognize as soon as they said this that it was not consistent with their customer service training. They put on a smile and said that as a special favor they would take my number and call me as soon as the room was ready. Of course we did not get the call, and after returning to the hotel at 3.40 found our room was ready. We got the keys and went to the room on the top floor. The key would not work. I returned to the lobby leaving my family at the room. Again the registration was chaos. When I eventually got someone’s attention, I was told my room had been changed from the one originally assigned to us and we were now on the seventh floor. So I had to retrieve my family and move to the new floor. The room we were assigned had dirty dishes and glasses left outside and the there was a lot of wear on the furnishings. The mini kitchen area was in drastic need of renovation. The soundproofing, as noted by others, is very poor and we were awoken by a crying baby in the next room at 2.30am. For the money I think you can do a lot better than this hotel, which is well below the standards of other Embassy Suites and highly overrated in the Tripadvisor listing of hotels in DC.
