“nice hotel”

Grand Hyatt Washington

Aug 14, 2008

We went to this hotel for a family reunion. The lobby is spacious and nice. The hotel has several places to eat.

Check-in was a little slow but there were major conferences checking out when we arrived. Everyone was helpful in answering questions and helping.

Room-the room was nice. it was a little small for 4 people. I wish the beds were queen instead of double. Very hard to get used to when you normally sleep in a king. Pillows comfortable and there plenty of them. Nice view of the city from the room. Everything was clean and maids did nice job of cleaning.

Parking-we drove to washington from ohio so we parked in the garage. I am very surprised of how small the garage is. It was full many times. It has nothing to do with the hotel. The hotel doesn;t even give you a voucher or anything. It was very expensive to park. When we left someone told us that it would of been cheaper to have valet park you as it was 20.00 a day instead of what we paid, which was hourly. The garage is of no affilation with the hotel even though most were hotel guest that parked there.

You have to pay to work out in the fitness center. As many people that stay here you think they could of afford for a free fitness center.

The pool is extremely small. we had to wait in the hall to use it on our stay as only 20 people are allowed in the area at a time. This hotel is huge. I couldn;'t believe this was all they had.

Wifi-a charge of course

This hotel is a short walk to monuments, parks, lots of restaurants,(china town 1 1/2 blocks away) metro bus right in front of hotel, cabs are plentiful, president house a couple blocks away. you are in the center of everything.

Bar & grill in hotel-very slow service but good food

lobby restaurant for breakfast-didn;t have pancakes or waffles the first few days. i guess it is only a sunday thing. The staff literally told us that you could order it but it would take forever to get it to you. you are better off eating the buffet.

overall it was a nice hotel. I guess i like a few amenities for my money.

“Hyatt Nice”

Grand Hyatt Washington

Aug 12, 2008

Grand Hyatt is nice, good location, large rooms, small bathrooms with no ventalation. Very nice beds, comfy. We got two rooms and the kids even enjoyed it although the pool closes way too early for the summer - 5;30 ON sunday? Staff is okay, some are very rude (security), very clean. Desk staff very helpful as is bell boys. linked to metro so easy to get anywhere.

“Beautiful hotel with minor drawbacks”

Grand Hyatt Washington

4 of 5 stars
Dayton, OH
Aug 12, 2008

Upon walking into the hotel I was stuck with how beautiful the lobby was. Check-in was a breeze with the kiosk and it even allowed me to check in a 11:30am (supposed to be 3:00pm) for no charge.

Upon arriving to my room I found that instead of one king that I had booked I was given two doubles. I was only in town for one day and was by myself, so I didn't say anything about it.

One thing you will want to be aware of, the air conditioner's speed cannot be controlled manually. It adjusts the speed to be faster automatically if the temp is set lower. I came into the room during the day and found that it was incredibly hot. There is only one vent in the room, and it is located right next to the giant winds, which means alot of the cool air escapes outside. In order to make the room comfortable during the day I had to set the temperature at 55 degrees.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. As with all hotels, skip the restaraunts. They are overpriced and in my own opinion did not offer very appealing menus. You are better off going out on the town and eating elsewhere for less money and actually finding a menu you enjoy.

The location was very good. It was about a 15 minute walk (leisurely stroll, not having to sprint there) to the White House. You are located right on the edge of the Downtown/Chinatown districts and I felt perfectly safe.

Upon checkout you will want to examine your bill. I found that I had been charge an extra $20 for "Private Reserve", which upon asking was told was the mini-bar. I never even received a key to the mini-bar and upon telling them this they took the charge off right away. They were very friendly about the whole thing, just make sure you look as they may make a mistake on your bill as well.

Overall a very enjoyable experience, and having stayed in DC numerous times I have to say this was one of my favorite hotels. I like to sample different hotels each time I go to a city, so I can't say I will be back but I will definitely recommend it to my friends, family and others.

“Loved The Hyatt”

Grand Hyatt Washington

4 of 5 stars
Philadelphia
Aug 5, 2008

I had been to Washington several times, but this was my first time staying for the weekend to sightsee. I chose the Grand Hyatt based on its location, website, and price. The location is absolutely perfect if you're a tourist there to see the sights. Everything is a short distance away. Cabs are readily parked outside. The Metro is right inside the hotel. They also offer valet parking (which is a bit pricey), but they park your car in a secured garage and offer in and out priveledges. In my experience, the room looked just like the hotel pictures. It looked like it was recently redone. It was nice, clean, and comfortable. I felt that the bathroom was adequate as well. I had a view of the atrium that I enjoyed. The only adjustment I would've made to the room would've been to have flat screen tv's. Everyone in my family agreed that we'd stay here again without hesitation. We had drinks at the bar, which were fine. We also ate/drank at the Starbucks in the lobby, which was also fine. We didn't have any complaints at all. It's a hotel for families as well as business travelers. I got a summer rate, which really made it a great deal.

“excellent accomodations”

Grand Hyatt Washington

Aug 4, 2008

Excellent location, clean rooms, great customer service!! We booked a room for 4 adults, 2 double beds. When we arrived, we checked in via kiosk and went up to our room. The room had a single king-sized bed. We went downstairs and it was immediately straightened out, no hassle AND with a smile! Valet parking (a PLUS!) Metro access (SUPER!) Next time, we'll stay 2 nights! COMFY beds & pillows (so much so that my sister wanted to take the pillows HOME!) We will definitely stay there again.
