“good location, clean room”

Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel

We booked the Renaissance last minute for a business training that my husband was attending, and I tagged along for a mini-vacation.

The hotel is clearly geared towards business and convention but was just fine for a mini vacation as well. The pool is closed for renovation, as is the fitness center, but a mini-gym has been set up to take the place of the latter.

We booked for $170 a night on Priceline. If we had paid more I might've been annoyed with our room location (on the 2nd floor, with a very odd view into the in interior lobby, and a long LONG walk from the elevators). The room was very clean.

The hotel is a few blocks walk away from the Red Line Gallery/Chinatown metro stop. Also a straight walk down 9th to the National Mall. A "Five Guys" burger joint (amazing, about as delicious a cheap burger as can be had beat only by In-N-Out in CA) is close by, as are many other moderate to high end restaurants. I wouldn't want to walk around the area at night, say after 9, but during the day it was just fine.

I would give the Renaissance 3.5 stars if possible. I chose 4 because the room was very clean, staff were polite, and location was good. The only downsides were the slightly sterile/business-like qualities of the place.

“Nice Hotel - Would Stay Again”

We stayed here from 4-6 Jun 08. Only a couple blocks from the China Town/Gallery Place metro stop. The hotel is very nice. The staff accomodated us with an early check in and late check out. The conceirge was helpful in getting us a shuttle from the hotel to BWI. Cost was $49 1st person and $10 each additional. Shuttle was right on time. Hotel was $175 a night through priceline. Rooms were very clean and we had a view of the National Monument. Bathroom size was fine, it was the door that opened right on top of the toilet was my only complaint. Internet was available in room and down in business area. Located about 6 blocks from the National Mall. A couple nice restaurants right down the street. Spy Museum a couple blocks away. I would definitely stay here again, as it was a great location to get around to all the sights.

“Nice Place, even for a Weekend Visit”

Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Washington DC

Nice bedding and soft beds highlighted my stay for one night on a weekend at the Renaissance. It is across the street from the Washington Convention Center and a stone's throw from the Verizon Center and the restuarants and entertainment now found in Chinatown. I encourage weekend tourists to try to find a low rate for this place as it is well worth it and very centrally located. They could use flatscreen TVs in the rooms, though, maybe with HDTV!

“"Yes, we have cleaned under here also!"”

Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel

May 18, 2008

My husband spotted an unopened condom next to the bed on the floor. He picked it up and then looked under the bed by it and saw a hotel sign that said "Yes we have cleaned under here also", and then another opened condom empty wrapper nearby.

He thought it was humorous because of the sign under the bed, but I was very upset. He didn't want me to report it to the front desk because the rest of the room was cleaned satisfactorily and we didn't want to get the cleaning staff in trouble, so I agreed.

This was the first time anything like that every happened in any of the hotels I have stayed in over the years.

The positives were that the hotel was upscale and had an attractive lobby. Also very convenient to transportation and local sights.

The staff were friendly and helpful.
