“Unbelievably friendly and helpful staff, massage chair in the room, very clean”

I stayed in the Madison with my four year old daughter and 18 year old cousin for a weekend. It was a leisure trip to see the sights and go to the zoo. We absolutely loved this hotel.

The room was immaculate, tastefully decorated, and the amenities in our room included: a human touch massage chair from the sharper image, an iHome iPod dock/alarm clock, all the lamps had electrical outlets in them which was very convenient for charging cell phones, laptops, and what have you, the shampoo, conditioner, and soap samples were already conveniently placed within the shower. The bed was very comfortable, and the large flat panel tv was very nice. Overall an excellent room.

The staff in this establishment are incredible. Everyone was unbelievably kind and helpful, and we found most services were prompt and thorough. The room service was expensive, but isn't it always pricey? We had breakfast in our room the first morning, and everything was great - the food and the service.

I highly recommend this hotel.

“An excellent hotel for business, but not for tourists”

My wife and I stayed there one night when we were visting the sites in DC. We booked the room through priceline and paid $150 with the taxes. This is one of the nicest hotels that I have ever stayed in. The hotel is run by one of the most professional staffs that I have ever seen. When I checked in I told them that I was a member of their frequent guest program and the person at the front desk upgraded my room.

My problem with the hotel is that it is in the middle of a business district, and there are no shops or anything near it. Everthing closes on the weekend and at night. The nearest restaraunts are even 4 blocks away. There is a coffee shop, across the street, but it was closed on a rainy Sunday morning. I had to go a couple of blocks away to find a Starbucks.

I do agree with what others have said about the parking. We paid $35. Thats too much.

Would I stay here again, yes, if I was staying here on business. No, if I were coming down to visit the tourist spots. I would pick a hotel closer to the mall.

“Lovely hotel but a little lacking”

I booked our 4 night stay at the Madison, via Priceline.com, and received a rather good price when I bid my own price. I had never visited DC before and after looking at the hotel website, I was very excited to get to stay at such a lovely hotel. Upon arrival, we were able to check in early and staff was very friendly. Our room was delightful…the view was nothing to write home about…but the flat screen TV was great and the beds were very comfortable. However, things seemed to go downhill from there. Our room was lacking the many items that were listed on their “room amenities” list, including robes, a coffee maker, and drinking glasses. After 3 days, our room had not been cleaned, even once, but there had been evidence that housekeeping had stopped by…new bathroom amenities had been tossed on our desk. When we called the front desk, we were told that it would be cleaned immediately, so we left the room, and returned an hour later and nothing had been done. When we approached the front desk, they were unsympathetic. Finally, our room was cleaned, but we weren’t given towels, or even toilet paper. Also, when I approached the front desk to borrow their listed “use of complimentary umbrellas”, the woman at the front desk was very rude and told me that they didn’t have any and they only give them to guests. When I informed her that she was the individual who checked me in 3 days prior, she just stared at me. I do have to say, the Doormen and Concierge were WONDERFUL and very helpful.

“excellent hotel”

Stayed at the Madison for a meeting. I did not choose the hotel as the organizer did this. Very comfortable stay and the staff seemed to be very well trained. Room was as advertised. My room had a massage chair-- I don't usually like it but this one was a very good one. Staff very helpful and courteous. No coffee machine, but they said they are getting around to install it. The coffee shop across the street came in handy for drinks. They charge $11/day for internet access in the room, but if you go to the lobby you can get a one day free pass on the wireless that is accessible there. The coffee shop across the street also offers free wireless.

“Great Stay in DC with kids over Easter Break!”

The Madison

I booked our room through Priceline. I was a bit nervous b/c
I had never used Priceline before. I got a great deal on a
great property for over Easter break. I traveled with my husband
and 2 kids (7 & 9). We arrived early and could have checked in
early but waited for a remodeled room. We were on the 10th
floor. The room faced the air conditioning units, etc. I was told
that all the even numbered rooms have two queen beds and all
faced the inner part of the hotel. I also wanted a room with a
better view. Oh well. The room was clean and remodeled. I
agree that the bathroom needed a fan and the room was so HOT
so were the hallways. We used our air condition.

As for the staff, they were wonderful and very helpful. The lobby
was very nice. It is an older hotel but very well maintained. I was
concerned about the hotel allowing pets. I saw one dog but
heard none. The madison is located in a great spot. An easy
walk to the Mall, etc. We also bought a day pass to the DC
circulator which is a bus the runs on three different routes and
worked well for us. A lot cheaper than a cab! We also parked our
car ourselves at the parking garage behind Caribou Coffee.
It was called Colonial Parking and was $24 a day and overnight
parking was allowed. BTW Caribou Coffee is across the street
from the hotel. Traveling with kids, they always look for the
soda machine....there are two CVS close by. We would get drinks
before we headed back to the hotel. There are no ice machines
but room service will provide you with ice at no charge.

We did not eat at the hotel. We ate at kid friendly, fun places.
We did the Hard Rock Cafe thing. Very touristy!! The kids liked
it and just an FYI Hard Rock accepts priority seating on line
at their website. We walked right in and got seated. There was an
hour and 1/2 wait on Thursday night. The other night we ate
dinner at Capital City Brew Company at their downtown location.
Great and very good food. We waited 20 minutes. Highly recommend going there. Breakfast we did at Old Ebbitt Grill.
Very good and great history and atmosphere. They don't
have a kids menu but will do half orders of things and work
with you. Lunches we did at the Museums and Old Post Office
building (nothing great there).

Over all, great DC mini trip. Could have spent more time in DC.
Our kids were a bit young for somethings but loved Air and Space, Natural History, Post Office Museum, Lincoln Memorial,
and of course the ZOO!
Hope this helps and Thank you Madison for a great Stay.
