“Disneyland Hotel - Still Magical after all these years”

My last visit to the Disneyland Hotel was in 1996 and at that time, it was a beautiful property. I wondered if anything had changed in 12 years. We arrived early, around 1 pm, and the front desk cast member, greeted me with "Hi, how are you?" I said "please tell me that you have a room ready for me." Megan said that the room assigned to us was not ready, but she checked with the room assignment desk and they were able to get me into a room, King bed in the Dreams tower, as I requested. The room was beautiful, I loved the Disney bedspread, very subtle Disney, not bold Mickey Mouse. The room had a free refrigerator, free internet access, free coffee in the lobby. Our view was of the Neverland Pool, but we didn't spend much time in the room so view was not important. This was my husband's first time in Disneyland, California and so he was impressed. There were some negatives, although some not the fault of the hotel. The monorail, which was the main reason I chose the Disneyland Hotel, didn't run one of the days of our stay; the first night the monorail service was erratic at best. Of course, the monorail is no longer touted as a resort transportation benefit, it's a Tomorrowland attraction. Because of medical reasons, I do have problems walking too far, and we did have to walk to the California Adventure Park, but it wasn't too bad and there were places that you could sit in Downtown Disney District if needed. I do wish that all Disneyland resort hotels would provide tram service to the theme parks, but because of Downtown Disney, I don't know how feasible that would be. Back to the Disneyland Hotel, housekeeping was always timely, the room was always cleaned up by the time we got back to the hotel, whether it was early or late afternoon. The room amenities were of better quality than many, cast members are friendly and you do feel welcomed there. My only complaints: They close everything, food, sundries, gift shop at 10pm, so when the park closes at midnight and you get back to your room, you'd better have already purchased any food or beverages beforehand. You can't even get room service after 10pm. Maybe I'm spoiled living in Las Vegas where the hotels have services 24/7. The other problem we had was with the room itself. Because of how the airconditioner is situated, the condensation caused the carpet on one side of the bed to be soaked. I called housekeeping the first morning, and nothing was done. I called guest services the second morning because at this point, we had to put our bath towels down on the floor, or step into sopping carpet when you get off the bed. Again, nothing was done. Finally, I called the front desk the third morning and they offered to change my room, which did not make sense considering we were leaving the next day. I just asked that they send someone to please wet vac it and check the A/C unit. They did send maintenance to check the unit, but no wet vac until I called again. Before we went back to Disneyland for our final night, I stopped at the front desk to speak to someone in person. The front desk cast member apologized and said that they will make it right. They did give me a credit to my bill for $75, and I do appreciate Disney's commitment. to exceed guest expectations. Would I stay here again - most definitely, we're going back in December.

“Nice hotel but pricey”

Okay--so I read alot about this hotel and wasn't sure if I made the best choice of a Disney property. We arrived around 11:00 a.m. and was told to come back at 3:00 p.m. to get room keys. Returned at that time--room still not ready--3:15, 3:30, 3:45 (now I'm getting anxious--kids are tired, etc.) A very nice front desk agent calls housekeeping and finds out that our room is ready; however she had also offered us a complimentary upgrade from a Regal Suite to a "themed suite". She took us to the suite personally for us to decide which room we wanted. As soon as the kids saw the Mickey Mouse themed bedroom (twin beds) & bathroom, they were sold, and so were we. The other bedroom had 2 queen beds. We ended up with 2 bedrooms and more importantly 2 bathrooms for 4 adults & 2 children. Our suite was in the Dreams Building which is very close to the Monorail. We paid $650+ per night for these accommodations--not really sure it was worth that, but the location is very good. Room service breakfast was around $80. All in all--we had a good time, albeit an expensive one.

“Wonderful Experience!!!!!!”

This was a great trip, we completely enjoyed ourselves. Although the hotel is expensive we felt as though we were paying for convenience, we had two teenagers and a toddler, so having the option of going back to the room during nap time and being close to the park while letting the teenagers do their own things worked out perfect. We stayed in the Dreams tower and it was very nice, seemed updated, clean and with 5 people in your family it was wonderful having the toilet behind it's own door and still having bathroom access, I know seems silly.

The staff was also very nice, everyone seemed so happy. My husband even forgot his wedding ring on the bathroom counter, (oh the horror), well I thought for sure it was a goner. When I called the hotel the day after we checked out they had the ring in lost and found, I was truly shocked and two days later the hotel staff had sent it to my house in Arizona. Now that's service.

If you have younger kids definetly do the character breakfast at Goofy's kitchen, we made reservations for 7am, (I know early), but there was hardly anyone there and the kids got lots of attention from the characters. So worth it!!!!!!! Memories they will never forget.

I would stay here again, it's pricey but if you like convenience and the entire Disney ambiance then this hotel is for you, if you don't care about any of that then I would suggest off property, but with kids I wouldn't do it any other way.

“Location, location, location”

Disneyland Hotel

When staying at this hotel you are paying for the proximity to the parks and Downtown Disney. It's so nice to walk to your room after a long day of walking. I was surprised how well the room looked based on the poor condition of the exterior (elevators, hallway, carpeting, etc). The Wonder building has seen better days. It's not dirty (it's all well maintained), just worn.

It could have been just my experience but I notice the staff is not as tight as the WDW hotels. There were a lot of little things that stood out, for example:

* We had WDW passes, and they can be used in Disneyland but 3 different employees gave us wrong information on how to get this done. We lost 20 minutes of touring time as a result.
* The bellman took 20 minutes to get our bags at check out.
* The life guards at the pool had a don't care attitude.
* We were celebrating a child's birthday and they forgot to give us the button and signed picture at check in. We had to call and remind them.
* Goofy's Kitchen was excellent as it pertains to character greetings but are wait was longer then usual when the cashier accidentally put us behind the correct order (no apology)
* Many employees didn't know the location of specific rides or areas. Something I never saw at WDW.

Even with the items outlined above it was still a great stay b/c of the location and charm of the hotel.

“It was really pretty great...”

I have to say, after reading some of the reviews of this hotel i thought we were going to a total dive. From the time we walked in the door of the hotel, until we left 3 days later....everything was really seamless. We arrived at the hotel really early to register knowing our room wouldn't be available until 3 or 4 in the afternoon but we were planning on going to the park anyway- i am glad we did because we got a great room in the Wonder Tower on the 12th floor- a quiet corner room which was pretty big...i mean people complained that the rooms were small and dark--not ours it was pretty good. We paid about 350.00/night which is not that much for what you get. Staying so close to the parks is key. If you are not expecting the Four Seasons you will be pleasantly surprised by this hotel-yeah it's old, yeah the sheets aren't plush 600 thread count, yeah there is no spa-but really aren't you going with your kids? who by the way are going to freak out when they see Goofy in the lobby just waiting for them with no long lines of people like at the parks. One thing I do have to say is the room service menu was pretty limited...so we got take out from the restaurant downstairs-Hook's Point" the food was cheaper and better..i just brought it up to our room and my husband and i watched the firework display while our 3 boys slept comfortably on the 200 thread count sheets!
If you are thinking of this hotel as some romantic weekend getaway with your spouse and no kids..not such a good choice but if you are with your kids and they LOVE Disneyland and all the Disney stuff this hotel is for you. Have fun.
