Granted, the Spa is right on Highway 29. And granted, it isn't some big-city chi-chi spot. But if you're looking for the big-city spa experience, Calistoga isn't the town for you. Period. It's more laid back and artsy. Lavender Hill was a lovely place for my BF and I to spend a few hours. We relaxed in the "Couples' Cottage" therapeutic baths, followed by massages. They were having a great "buy one, get 1/2 off the other" deal, so we went for it. They had plenty of cool, citrusy drinking water everywhere--the baths were attended by a lovely woman who came in every 10 minutes to give us cool washcloths for our heads and water to keep us cool. I didn't notice the road noise TOO much--they seem to have music going to help mask the noise. It's an artsy, calm spa, perfect for relaxing in Calistoga. It's within walking distance from the downtown area, so you won't even need your car to get there! If you're looking for something more fancy, try St. Helena. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Spa.
