“Terrible Setup, Mediocre Hotel”

Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel

I stayed at this hotel from 5/25 - 5/26 for a leisure trip in Los Angeles. For people driving to the hotel, keep in mind that parking is $22 which was not mentioned anywhere when I booked the reservation. Also, actually getting to the parking structure is quite confusing and strange. You have to go into the Macy's Parking structure which is located on level 4, 5, 6. To get up there you have to go up a twirling circle that gets you very, very dizzy. After you do that you have to go down to the level floor where the entrance to the Sheraton is located. I have never experienced anything like this before.

I checked in early with no problem around 12 P.M. I was given a room on the 22nd floor (given an upgrade as an elite SPG member). The room itself was very average. For the price, location, brand and reputation, I thought that the hotel could have been MUCH better. The room are a very old style of Sheratons’ while many of the other Sheratons have invested to keep up with modern trends (i.e. plasma TV’s, more vibrant colors). The room itself was very clean, good amenities and decent in size. There was nothing to brag about of the hotel. Noise level was pretty good partly because the hotel was pretty empty. I was visiting many tourist attractions so I had to keep going in and out of the parking structure which really, really annoyed me. I came back to my room around midnight and when I went to the ground floor of the mall going back to the Sheraton, I really was scared. It was like being trapped in a dark mall and night.

Overall, the hotel itself is not bad, not good just average. I really don’t have anything good to say about the hotel but I hated how the hotel was set up. I will probably go somewhere else next time.

I onlyl stayed here because it was the only place I could find with a room at the last minute when I needed one. serivice overall was below average, nothing too scary just not attentive. Rooms were below average a little on the dirty side. As a last resort it fit my need however I would never make a reservation here if I had anohter choice

“Wonderful hotel!”

If you want to stay downtown, this is the place. I was there on business and had to be all over the area, and the hotel was always within a few blocks so I walked everywhere. It was clean, modern and the staff are super friendly and helpful without the snobby attitude of some Hollywood hotels. I am always very picky about beds, but the Sheraton has some of the most comfortable I've ever had in a hotel.
The attached mall is a little strange, but there's a good selection of fast food if you just need a quick bite. The hotel bar has decent food too. I would definitely stay there again.

“Avoid the jr Suites!”

Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Paradise Valley, AZ
Apr 19, 2008

The hotel is average but avoid the Jr Suites! A quiet sitting room adjoins the bedroom and the bedroom wraps the elevator shaft! In general he rooms are "standard" but a bit drab/dated. The dark interior lobby(s)...there are multi levels...are connected by escalators. The meeting rooms are in the sub subterranean levels which translates to no cell/internet service in the lowest level meeting room. When the escalators aren't working..oh well!

The hotel located as part of the Macy's shopping center has lots of food courts and the hotel has an upscale dinner restaurant and a nice breakfast area.

Bottom line is that it is an OK place to stay if downtown LA is where you want to be.

“Gloomy hotel--needs a facelift inside rooms”

Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel

2 of 5 stars
Sunny California
Apr 16, 2008

Sheraton Downtown Los Angeles was a disapointment. It is gloomy inside the rooms and they had curtains on the windows limiting the views and making it darker than needed.

There is no pool and the exercise facility is next door at Bally's in the Mall. This is a 1980's type hotel next to a Macy's--when building a hotel next to a shopping mall was seen as a cool thing--as if you are going to need to stay overnight to go to Macy's.

The stay was mediocre and more is expected from the Sheraton brand especially in a Downtown LA location.

The hotel had escalators to get to the elevators--basically you have to drag your luggage around so go light on anything you bring. We waited 15 minutes for help with our luggage and gave up. The people that did help us in our 3 day visit were very nice, but overall, they seem understaffed and a bit disorganized.

The mall is like a ghost town with the shops closed early b/c they cater to the office 9-5 crowd.

Overall it was just an average stay. Parking was in the $25 dollar range.

There aren't alot of choices downtown LA--the quality of hotels are very dated and poorly maintained. So with this standard the Sheraton is above average. Comparing the hotel to what the Sheraton should provide it is about a 4-out of 10.

    • Disliked — room was dark and gloomy--hotel was dated and mostly difficult to get around; minimal services at hotel.
