“Decent place to stay before a cruise”

Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Harbor Hotel

Do not hesitate to book this hotel before a cruise. Very nice accomidations- clean and comfy bedding. I do enjoy the Crowne Plaza line's attention to a good night sleep (complimentary ear plugs, lavender linen spray and a sleeping mask).

The dining was OK- service was slow but the food was decent. My husband had a stir fry entree that was quite good. I ordered a pepper soup which was good as well. If I go back, I would enjoy a meal there again if I stayed at the hotel because...if you are there for anything aother reason, there is NOTHING else to really do in San Pedro.

My husband and I walked around the neighborhood in the morning. At times I was scared and would turn my rings around. Not sure if it was all that bad but I was not very comfortable. I would not feel safe heading out at night in the area.

“Great pre-cruise stay in San Pedro”

Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Harbor Hotel

Mar 3, 2008

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza for one night before a cruise on the Golden Princess in February. We flew in from the East Coast and arrived at the hotel about 9ish pm local time.

We used Go Sedan for our transfers and they were wonderful. They met us in baggage claim and took us straight to the bellman at the hotel. Great service!

Initially, we requested a non-smoking king room. When I called the day of check in to confirm, they had me down for a smoking double. I again requested non-smoking king. When we checked in, I asked again. They said they had non-smoking but no kings. Then the clerk offered a handicapped non-smoking king which we were happy to take. Check in was very quick and easy. We used Priceline for our room. The desk clerk wasn't super friendly, but was quick, efficient and friendly enough.

We checked in at the bell desk and they recommeded some places to eat nearby and provided a map for us. We ended up at the Green Onion, a Mexican restaurant almost right next door. The food and service were great. It was casual and reasonably priced. Perfect for weary travelers! The decor was a little different - almost like a Bennigan's. They had a bar.

Our hotel room had a big chair and a desk. We didn't have a great view. The room was very clean, but a little worn. The shower was a little dark with decent water pressure. The bed was very comfortable. The room temperature was good. They even provided a clip to place on the curtains to keep them closed and keep the room dark.

My only complaint about the hotel would be the thin walls. There was a very loud, rude family next door to us making ton of noise at 6am. We could hear almost every word they were saying (more like shouting). But you can't really fault the hotel for the behavior of obnoxious people. We didn't call and complain because we were ready to get up anyway.

The next morning we went for a walk up 6th street I think - headed away from the port. We walked for a few blocks. At one of the main intersections, caddy corner to a thift store, we found the funky little San Pedro Deli and Cafe. What a great place to eat breakfast. The menu was varied. The service and the food were awesome. It was a great way to start our vacation. Plus it was a great value for the money. They give you a ton of food. I had 4 slices of french toast, 2 eggs and bacon for $4.99. My husband had an omelette, fried potatoes and buscuits and gravy for $7.59. It was much cheaper that eating at the hotel, and it was nice to experience some local flavor.

We also passed several other lunch/dinner restaurants as well as a local coffee shop and a Starbucks. We saw a sign for a liquor store, but it looked like it was closed down. We also saw a wine shop, but it wasn't open yet. I did not see a drug store near the hotel but we didn't ask about one either.

The hotel had a gift shop, bar, restaurant, pool and hot tub that we did not use.

When we checked in, we asked about the port shuttle and they gave us a paper with the information. They provide service to LA port in San Pedro and to Long Beach for Carnival Cruises. Check out was a breeze - we did express check out over the phone. We carried our own luggage down and were on the first shuttle at 10:30. There were only three of us on the shuttle. The ride was only 5-10 minutes tops. They also provide return shuttle service to the hotel, but we didn't use that service.

All in all, it was a great place to stay before our cruise. I would highly recommended it for a pre-cruise stay because it is in a great location, the service was good, and the rooms were clean and comfortable.

“Ok for pre-cruise”

Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Harbor Hotel

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza for 2 nights prior to our Diamond Princess Hawaiian cruise on Jan. 17th. The location was terrific for access to the pier, but I wasn't impressed with the hotel.
The bell-girl was good and friendly, but the desk staff was totally disinterested in being friendly or conducting any conversation. She just wanted to check us in and get rid of us asap.
Our first room was on the 7th floor; I think it was 729. The room was shabby; door frames were chipped and dirty, the furniture was also tired, but the beds were good. We put our luggage down, and then we headed out to see the area. Just before we left I looked into the shower, and it looked ok but then I noticed that there was mildew around the tub. My husband said it was fine, but I wasn't happy and thought about it all afternoon. Also, there was a note on the front desk saying that if you couldn't answer Very Satisfied on every item of the room survey you should let the know right away.
When we got back from our day out I went to the desk and said that I certainly couldn't answer Very Satisfied, and I asked if all of the rooms were shabby and had mildew in the bathrooms. That clerk was helpful and was dismayed (??) to learn that the room wasn't good. He moved us to the 10th floor quickly. This room was much better although it didn't have as good a view of the ship coming in which was one of the reasons we booked the Crowne. The important part was that the tub area was spotless. The wood furniture and woodwork were still chipped and tired, but the whole room was more acceptable. Being on the 10th floor there was a reception room where they had afternoon snacks and continental breakfast which was very nice. That room also had a good view of the harbor so we could see the Diamond arriving.
I'd recommend the hotel for a pre-cruise, but I wouldn't pick it for a vacation.

“Great for Pre-Cruise”

Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Harbor Hotel

We took a taxi from LAX to the Crowne Plaza San Pedro. Our cabbie didn’t know where the hotel was, but since I had printed out our confirmation information, he was able to call and get the directions. (Moral of the story: always have a printed copy of your hotel reservation confirmation.) When we arrived at the hotel, bellmen took our many bags and followed us up to the rooms after check-in.

2 of our 3 rooms were upgraded to Executive Suite rooms, which was nice. The bedding was incredibly comfortable and the bathtub was huge. After a long day of traveling and the frustration of the ground transportation, DW definitely enjoyed the nice relaxing bath.

The bellmen who assisted with checking-in had told us that the hotel’s shuttle service started at 10:30 in the morning, but if we wanted to be first out, to call for the bellmen about 10:00. We did so, and were on the first shuttle by about 10:15. We arrived at the port by 10:30.

This hotel was great! We got it for $65 on priceline. It would have been worth the regular price. We arrived at 11pm and our key cards were already made up. The desk clerk typed our names in the computer and handed us the cards. Fastest check-in ever.

The hotel had a very nice, modern decor. The room was very clean and comfortable. The amenity kit included linen spray, a relaxation CD, an eye mask and ear plugs. They also had shampoo and soap etc. The lighting in the room was more ambient than task though. I had to put my make-up on in the bathroom. No big deal though.

The free shuttle to the port was very easy and convenient.

We only had one small complaint which wasn't the hotel's fault. My husband wanted a snack when we arrived, but the little snack shop was closed when we got there. We were hoping to pick up a little something for breakfast there, but they only had a few snacks--no breakfast foods. It was more of a gift shop than a food store. Again, not a big deal. The restaurant was opened for breakfast but we didn't want to sit down, so we just ate when we got on the ship.

I will definitely stay here again if sailing out of San Pedro.
