“We loved this place!”

Island City House Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Nov 17, 2008

My husband and I loved this place! We got married this weekend in Key West and this was the perfect place for us to stay! Location was great, rooms were clean and decorated beautifully! Breakfast in the garden was calm and quiet. Miss Snorkels, the cat, was so friendly! We even allowed her in our room. She slept quite comfortably on the bed with us and we felt right at home. This hotel is perfect for any romantic get away.

“Perfect Location, Beautiful Property”

Island City House Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Virginia
Oct 22, 2008

We spent four nights at the Island City House in a Cigar House King Suite. Our rooms were beautifully decorated, spotless, and comfortable. The staff was exceedingly helpful and more than willing to call around and get answers to any touristy questions we had. The property itself is incredible: Stepping through the carriage entrance is like stepping into a beautiful tropical forest.

We parked our rental car on a side street and never touched it until we left. The hotel is just 2 blocks or so from the harbor, and a couple more to Duval Street.

I would have liked a little more variety at the breakfast cart, but the overall perfection of our stay at the Island City House more than wipes out that tiny, picky complaint.

“Loved The Cats!”

Island City House Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Dublin, California
Oct 15, 2008

I learned something with my 4 night stay at Island City House.....you're either a bed and breakfast type traveler or you're a corporate chain hotel type traveler and I might be the later.

This hotel was charming and old, quiet, well kept, clean and well decorated. Lugging our heavy bags up to the 3rd floor with no elevator or help was awful with our bad backs and we wouldn't do it again.

Our room in the main Island City House building was very nice and our porch area was lovely. I enjoyed sitting there one evening with a book and one of the many hotel cats curled up at my side. The gardens and grounds are lush and well tended. The pool is very small and the surrounding area not too inviting, but it did the trick when we needed a dip one evening.

Having a kitchen was nice, but we didn't really use it, except to keep bottles of water in the fridge. The bathroom had virtually no place to set your stuff so I had to bring one of the folding luggage racks in and then place a towel over it so things wouldn't fall through. The front door window had a lace curtain over it with no way to cover it at night and it looked straight into the bathroom! We safety pinned a towel to it at night. The floors creaked terribly, so if you think you're going to sneak up in the middle of the night for a drink of water and not wake up your spouse, forget it.

Breakfast in the courtyard was lovely but the offerings were slim. We got way more at the Holiday Inn in Fort Lauderdale. There was yogurt, whole fruit, a bagel or croissant everyday, maybe cinnamon buns, as well as toast, 2 juice choices, coffee or tea - that's it. Don't get me wrong - it was plenty for anyone, but I would have liked some form of protein other than the yogurt. Cereal would have been nice.

Parking at ICH is horrible, so don't plan on being able to park nearby unless you get lucky. There are very, very strict parking rules.

We paid $180.00 per night for 2 of our nights and $153.00 for the other 2 (plus taxes, of course) which are off season prices, I believe, and fair.

If you want something historical, charming and quiet, stay here. If you want comfort and convenience, stay elsewhere.

    • Disliked — Inconveniences - no elevator, space in bathroom, creakiness.

“VERY NOISY”

We trust in trip advisor advice so we decided to choose this hotel, we were enjoyed by the bedroom who were clean and beautifull. The huge problem is the noise, we could listen the conversation of the people who were in the next bedroom. The worse was the noise of the street, horrible, impossible to sleep in this hotel. The swimming pool is very small, and the price for the prestations is not justified !

As with any hotel, if you are sensitive to noise, you should discuss this with the front desk staff before making your reservation. This room is advertised as having a street-view and it is our least expensive room. We do have many other rooms and room types that do not overlook the street. We do our best to accurately describe the rooms on the various booking engines, but if you have any questions regarding your reservation, please call us directly. Thank you!

“A Great Place”

Island City House Hotel

We shared a two bedroom suite in the Arch house with another couple. The suite was recently renovated with new floors and flat screen televisions. It was perfect. We loved being able to sit outside our suite on the porch. We loved the continental breakfast.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The pool was serene. The entire property has this wonderful feel of Old Florida. The loacation is perfect as it is close to most everything in Key West.

We feared the lack of parking would be a drawback, but it wasn't at all. We were there on a very quiet week and never had a problem parking our car or our rented electric cart. They have wireless internet service, but not in your room. We used it in the courtyard and by the pool with no problems.

Most of all we loved the price. Over half the price of anything comparable on the island and such a lovely place. We would definitely return here next time we are in Key West.
