“Good Stay”

Travelodge & Suites Key West

Jul 30, 2008

My wife and I stayed at the Travelodge from 11th July to 14th July 2008.

We had a clean room which had a double bed, cable TV and coffee making facilites.

The bathroom was clean and had a hairdryer. The reception area is small and clean, also the front desk guys are very friendly.

Breakfast is a selection of cereals, muffins, bagels and tea/coffee.
This is held in the same area as the reception/check in.

There is also a computer in the reception area for free internet access.

The pool area is clean and has an extremely hot jacuzzi there as well.
May we suggest eating at the Hard Rock restaurant on Duval Street, which is inside what appears to be an old wooden house.

Also a snack in Sloppy Joes is an experience. Fort Zachory Beach is a must. Be aware Sun loungers and umberellas are expensive to rent here.
Think I paid $25 for the day. But there is a cafe that provides some good lunches.

Mallory Square to watch the sunset. Picture at Southernmost Point.

“Good value”

My wife and I stayed at the Travelodge & Suites whilst visiting the southern Keys for a few days. We picked this hotel simply because it had appeared on Expedia at a discounted rate whilst we were up in Fort Lauderdale the day before we left to head down there. Key West is expensive (relative to the Florida mainland) for hotels, so the Travelodge suddenly became excellent value and gained our custom.

They were resurfacing the car park when we were there, so parking was limited (and this may have been why they were offering the discounted rate), but for the three nights we stayed, parking wasn't a problem.

The room was nothing special; small and functional describes it well. Then again, what are you looking for? We were just wanting somewhere to put our heads down at night - we were out every day sightseeing, so function was more important than form. It was also clean, which is something I do think is important.

Breakfast was not substantial, but it was free, and it'll keep you going for a few hours.

As pointed out on an earlier review, the elevator has no AC. That's true, and it was also glass and fixed to the outside of the hotel which didn't help to keep the climate down. But then we didn't spend much time in the elevator!

The hotel is quite a way from the main attractions of Key West, and walking to Duvall Street is not really an option. That said, I thought that was a good thing. It can get quite noisy in that part of town at night. On the other hand, if you are a Scuba diver, then the superb Dive Key West Inc is only about half a mile along the road.

“Great Inexpensive (for KW) hotel”

Travelodge & Suites Key West

New owners in 2006, and it is rising from the dead. Much better than previous owners, poollside bar open again. Rooms were clean, staff friendly. Not a luxary hotel, but definetly a great value and would stay again, in fact I'm already booked for the same time this year. Be advised the elevator is does NOT have AC, it gets hot or there are a lot of steps to be climbed for the upper f;loors.

My family stayed in a 3 bedroom suite for 3 nights the first week of May. We were a little concerned considering the previous review; however we were pleasantly surprised by our accomondations. Is the hotel brand new and sparkling? No, but it was clean and very suitable for us. It has a big kitchen that we cooked several meals in without any problems. We had a big balconey that overlooked the water that we sat and had cocktails on and watched the sunset every night. We didn't eat the continental breakfast because we chose to cook breakfast every morning in our room.

The hotel location is away from the downtown area, but we had no problem driving over to Duvall street and finding parking on 3 different occasions. Being away from downtown assurred us quiet sleeping.

The pool area was great, hardly anyone else at the pool besides us. The staff was very friendly, especially the woman at the front desk who checked us in; she couldn't do enough for us.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a nice clean hotel. If you are looking for fancy, brand new and plush ; this isn't it.

“Terribly run down, poor location”

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to any other travelers to Key West. Its extremely overpriced; I wouldn't have even paid half as much as I did to stay there again.

The location isn't great. Its pretty much as far from Duval and the activities in Old Town as you can get, which I admittedly knew going in. There was a shopping center within easy walking distance so that may be a plus to some.

The room itself was horrible. We had a 3 bedroom suite, and while it was big it looked and smelled like it was 30 years old. The stench almost knocked us off our feet when we got in. Other problems included no blankets for the sleeper sofa, garbage all around the room, exposed wiring, staircase to the upper level shaking violently when used (to the point where I truly feared that someone would break it during the weekend), and ants running across the counter tops in the kitchen.

The breakfast left a lot to be desired, which shouldn't have been much of a surprise based on the size of the reception area. The service was poor overall, both housekeeping and check-in.

Overall, I would never stay at the hotel again and would recommend others to keep away as well. Unless this is the only option, find somewhere else. It doesn't offer anything special, and the rates aren't something to get excited about either.
