“What a fabulous place!”

We stayed here mid April, two adults and four children (ages 8, 9, 10, 11) and absolutely loved it! We've stayed in the past at the Casa Marina, but given the nightmare of the construction (not to mention the price), this was a perfect alternative at a great price. We even got to use our favorite beach at The Reach because it was closed while we were there and was being handled by Barefoot Billy, who had the watersports still available.

Our room was wonderfully clean, plenty spacious for our group, and when we found a couple of minor issues in the room, it was literally fixed the same day (we mentioned it to the front desk in the morning, when we returned late in the afternoon everything was fixed...excellent service.) We were in A-201, which was a perfect location for us--next to Louie's Backyard but I found no issues with noise or sound from the restaurant at all.

There is a single cleaning during the week, though for a small fee you can have an additional cleaning. We found it was not necessary, and they provided a few extra towels and toilet paper, etc. upon request. The kitchen is great--we loved being able to have breakfast and lunch in the room, a giant cost saver when there with six of us! We go to the local Publix our first day in town and stock up on water and food for the daytime, and ate in our favorite haunts at night (don't miss Blue Heaven, El Meson de Pepe's or Mangia Mangia!).

They have a lovely pool (and several resident cats), plus access to the beaches and water, with the bonus of being next to dog beach, where locals bring their dogs to play fetch and cool off. We had no problem parking (and we had a large Cadillac Escalade to manuever), mostly parking in the little underground lot, on the street a couple of times.

This trip was a rental of an owner's week, but we had such an incredible time we are highly considering purchasing a week or two at this resort for ourselves. At the very least, we'd absolutely rent here again! I suppose if there were any negatives, the porches are entirely shared, so if you're looking for privacy in an evening on a balcony, you are sort of sharing with your neighbors. The location is at a quieter part of the island, but we had a car and never had an issue with getting anywhere. Do carry lots of quarters for street parking, though after a while it's possible to find free parking if you're patient about looking.

We have been coming to Key West for years and could not be happier with this find--if you are considering Coconut Beach, you won't be disappointed. And don't forget to see Dominique and his Famous Flying Housecats during the sunset at Mallory Beach--he's one of the major highlights of our trip every year!

I feel compelled to write a review about this place. My boyfriend and I came down here under the false impressions of the fairly positive reviews and decent looking pictues on the website. we checked out almost immediately and here's why. Our room was AWFUL, tiny, smelled like they were pumping the smell of heavy duty laundry detergent into our room to the extent that I could not stay in the room for very long without starting to get a headche. I went out onto the small porch to get some air only to find that it must have been a staff hangout as there were about 5 staff mbrs there hanging out waiting for their rides. They were loud and in my opinion should not have been there in the first place. The room was dark and we could not open the blinds because there were people directly on the other side of the glass. Nevermind the "thin walls" mentioned in the other reviews. There was an actual 4 inch gap between the floor and the door that separated our room from the people next door. We heard EVERYTHING including footsteps. The pool was pretty small and the bar was closed even though it was a saturday afternoon. We heard that the larger rooms are nicer but honestly we were not impressed with the facilities. There was a car parked directly outside blasting annoying music. It just was not a nice place. I am amazed at all of the positive reviews written about that place. we lucked out though and got a great room for less money at La Mer (of Southernmost hotels). Now we are having the great vacation that we thought we initially planned. If you are going there and are not a college kid on spring break just looking for place to crash and don't care about where you stay then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE rethink staying at Coconut resort. We just don't want people to go thru what we went thru.

Having already booked my reservations I was most interested in viewing Trip Advisor ratings for this Hotel and aprehensive because the average was about a 3.0 but the comments were actually not bad.

I will say all of my ratings will be consistent in rating cost/value equations meaning I need a far higher standard at $600+ per night for a room compared to a $260 per night suite.

We just returned from a week in Key West and paid off season rates for a one bedroom suite Oceanside. I was actually surprised at the Oceanside because it could have said Oceanfront as the only thing between us and the Ocean was the Pool or about 50 feet.

The accomodations exceeded my expectations. The main room and down the hall and bedrom were all Ceramic floored with Marble I believe in the Bath. (Some reviews said Linoleum) The main living area was 12 x 18 and included a sleeper sofa, easy chair a small glass table for 4 and a Kitchen wall with what appeared to be all new appliances.

We were second floor directly over the pool. My only complaint was 6 Rockers for 4 suites on our front balcony so there was a bit of 'borrowing' going on. Twice they scheduled Rum Punch 2 hour mixers with a one man Calypso band including Steel drums. Quaint. The Staff was as good as most 5 star hotels and every request for info was met with a new outlined map to the destination and a "Certainly sir'. It was fairly quiet at this end of the Island but the whole island being small was easilty accessible by Motor Scooter which was a preffered method of travel with abundant free parking available most everywhere.

Eating out from 2 to 3 meals each day we found a plethora of great places to eat. Don't miss Front Street Harbor and Alonzo's Oyster Bar. For an upscale Dinner I suggest Commodores on the Harbor for a great view and excellent food. Not inexpensive but you certainly receive Value in Quality, Proportions as well as service. My biggest disapointment was Mangia Mangia which is mid Island and was the worst meal we had in Key West. At half the upscale price it would still be poor. Other diners seemed to share my opinion that it was far over rated.

Things not to miss are the good times at Kevin's Irish Pub, visitng Mallory Square, shopping, the aforementioned Alonzo's and a Massage at the Pierhouse Carribean Spa. The Spa itself lacked space and a place to relax before and after but I would recommend the treatments. LA Te Da was an excellent Dinner and Cocktail place and don't miss Camille's for Breakfast although You need a Friday Saturday or SInday for their Eggs Benedict but their Special French Toast is worth a visit. We'll be back to Key West.

“Great weekend getaway!”

Coconut Beach Resort

My girlfriend and I (both 25) took a long weekend to relax in Key West. We did some research before we left and thought the coconut beach resort was our best bet. To my surprise, the property not only met, but exceeded my expectations! I travel a fair amount and I'm fairly used to places not living up to expectations. The staff was friendly and helpful. The property is beautiful and we loved hanging out by the pool with the waves of the ocean crashing up at our feet. It was amazing! A lot of places in Key West appeared to be very small and bed and breakfast esque and we really wanted someplace that had a decent area by the water we could sit out and realx. Coconut Beach definitely met this requirement. I would go back and stay here again without a 2nd thought. Only down side is that the walls are a little thin. Not unbearable, but we could hear our neighbors occasionally. I definitely reccomend this place!

This timeshare is several blocks away from Duval Street. Although it’s not that far of a walk, it’s still an inconvenience to have to walk 10 minutes or so just to get a quick bite to eat. We ended up taking our rental car everywhere. We found this to be quite frustrating as well because everywhere you go, there’s metered parking. It’s a quarter for every ten minutes. This ends up being $1.50 an hour. We would always have to exchange our dollar bills for quarters, which was not always easy to do. A lot of the shops would not exchange our money for us.

I would rate the hotel 3 stars. In my opinion, they need to replace the furniture. They were old and falling apart. The cabinets looked quite worn as well. We did have a new fridge in our room though. The official website states that there are hardwood floors in the units. From what I could tell, none of the units had hardwood floors. We had tile in the main living room / kitchen area and really ugly green carpet in the bedrooms. The bottoms of our feet were always black by the end of the day. The door knob to one of the French doors kept falling off. The bathrooms were clean, but again, the cabinets were really cheap and warped. We had everything we needed in the kitchen….even a blender for making those nice, cool margarita’s! Our unit was a 2 bedroom / 2 bath. One of the studios made up part of our unit. I would not recommend the studio, because more than likely you will be on the back side of the hotel, which has a view of the road and not the ocean. The bedrooms weren’t really anything special.

The view is definitely what made this timeshare unique to others out there. There are three floors. We were on the 2nd floor and had a view to die for! The ocean was right in front of us, which made a nice backdrop to the pool and Jacuzzi.

Twice a week, there’s a rum punch party held out by the pool area. They have live music (which I thought was pretty good!). It brought everyone out of their rooms to mingle with the other guests. You can’t get that at the bigger hotels. They also had free Cuban pastries and coffee a couple times a week.

There is no internet access in your room. They have wifi either in the hotel lobby or in the gazebo. At the beginning, it was really slow (I think their router was broken). It got better throughout the week. I usually just went out to the gazebo to use my laptop. There is a table out there and you are overlooking the ocean. There’s no charge for this wireless service.

The hotel has two washers and two dryers. It was nice to go home with clean clothes. They don’t charge to use the washer or dryer, but you do have to pay for the detergent. I just brought mine from home.

The most annoying thing about the trip had to be the wild roosters outside our window every morning. Cock-a-doodle-doo! Every morning at sunrise we would hear them. The first couple mornings they woke me up. They’re everywhere on Key West, so if you’re not a heavy sleeper, I suggest ear plugs. And, even if you are a heavy sleeper and are there for bike week, definitely bring ear plugs!!

The pool area was nice, however, some of the landscaping could be spruced up a bit. The palm trees look beautiful from your balcony as you overlook the ocean. I really enjoyed just sitting out on the balcony in the morning on the rocking chair.

In the end, I would probably not stay at the Coconut Beach Resort again. Not because the hotel was bad, but I just was not thrilled with Key West in general. I think the 2 by 4 mile strip of land is really overrated. Restaurants are expensive, parking is a nightmare, there’s not much of a nightlife (unless you are into the bar scene), and as you probably already know, Key West isn’t known for their beaches. The Coconut Beach Resort could use a few more upgrades and a thorough maintenance evaluation just to make sure the little things in the rooms are repaired. The ocean water was warm, but not as beautiful as is seems in the pictures. I may be biased because I have traveled all around the world to some really beautiful, exotic places. So, for some, Key West may be a treat, but for others who have been there, done that, it could be a huge let down.
