“Great stay in Doral!”

Doral Golf Resort and Spa

4 of 5 stars

Jul 11, 2008

My wife and I and two friends stayed at the Doral Spa and Golf Resort in late June. We all really enjoyed this resort. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were very nice. We had a suite that was very large, it had two bathrooms a king size bed and two pull out couches in the living room area. The resort is very large and the rooms are very spread out. But, it was just a short walk to the parking area, pool and lobby. The resort surrounds several beautiful golf courses. The lobby area is very nice, and the grounds are beautiful. The resort has several nice dining choices and a starbucks type coffee shop. The gym area was very nice and well equipped. The gym did not charge an extra fee to use the facilities. The pool area is great. There was a ton of lounge chairs, live music, water slides, water falls and good food and drink choices. The area outside the resort seemed a little scary. There was a large amount of police action going on as we drove around town. While on the resort grounds you do not see or hear any of the Police action going on. The resort is very close to the Miami airport and would make a nice place to stay between flights. Overall I would recommend this resort, especially if you are a golfer!!

“Not as nice as would have expected from a famous Resort hotel”

Doral Golf Resort and Spa

Jul 6, 2008

Stayed a couple of nights here in June for a business conference. Definitely would stay here again if a conference were held at the resort, but if Miami for personal business, this is not the location I would want to be staying. (Only reason to stay here would be to enjoy the spa or golf course.) For how ordinary and tired the rooms are, this hotel is overpriced at usually costing $200+.

Nice gym with lots of cardio and weight equipment. Couple of nice restaurant choices. Very nice selection of bars. I would definitely recommend checking out the bar seating that is outside at night that overlooks the golf course.

“Good but not luxury”

Doral Golf Resort and Spa

4 of 5 stars
Austin, Texas

Was here for five days for a conference. The pros: All staff I encountered were very friendly. Golf carts were there to take you from the main lobby to your building, great since it rained every day and some buildings are a little bit of a walk. The bed was very comfortable, and my room was older but clean. During each meal, I was impressed that they managed to serve 500 people almost all at the same time, although the food was so-so. Lots of equipment in the free exercise room. Be sure to visit the "secret" adults-only pool. Cons: Temperature was not regulated very well in conference rooms. We were either freezing or burning up. There was no protein at breakfast--only fruit and pastries--so we were starving by lunch. This may have been the choice of the conference planners though. Prices at the hotel bar were ridiculous--a $15 margarita? Be sure to check your final room bill; mine had a few extra charges that were removed when I asked about them. I thought the $13/day Internet fee was excessive--not even wireless! I just saw these survey results from AH&LA: "wireless Internet access is in 91% of responding properties, and the number of hotels that charge for in-room Internet use is down to 16%." Since they already charge a lot for the room, Doral should get with the program and offer free WiFi across the property.

“Falls Short”

Doral Golf Resort and Spa

Jun 26, 2008

Stayed on business. Staff was very helpful and pleasant - particularly front desk, valet, and food service. Excellent event execution. Lovely property. Prices are OUTRAGEOUS - $17 for a mojito in the sports bar. Rooms were hit or miss. Mine was lovely, but some other colleagues had bug problems, door handles falling off and terrible lighting. Also the whole resort smells quite strongly of mildew. One very disappointing thing was a group of my colleagues and I witnessed an altercation between guests that involved a taser. Staff passing by in a golf cart did not respond to our screams for help - they told us they thought we were joking (a group of professionally dressed mid-age women that we were). The police were not called. The guest involved told security that a hooker in his room tried to rob him. We were very shaken and were not offered a security escort back to our room or any apology for what we witnessed. Up to that point, I would have given the resort an above average rating. I would have given it a "terrible" but it is not entirely the Doral's fault that a guest brought a hooker on property. Bottom line, though, is I would not choose to stay there again.

    • Disliked — Poor security and general mildew smell in most indoor areas of property

“Outrageous Costs and Lack of Cleanliness.”

Doral Golf Resort and Spa

1 of 5 stars
Newport, Kentucky
Jun 25, 2008

We stayed for four nights and were extremely disappointed. On the website, the resort is sold as a top-notch expernce; it was not. The hotel is old with many signs of its age- worn carpet, sofa, etc. The rooms just need to be updated for the price. To make matters worse, the rooms are filthy (garbage left behind from previous guests, etc.). Our greatest disappointment was with the additional costs of the stay- $14 per day for Internet access that is not Wi-Fi; mixed drinks at no less than $15; a soft drink in a can for $3.50; mediocre food at extremely high resort prices; $6.00 to rent a pool noodle for the day; rationing of ragged pool towels and a requirement that guests pay $5 per towel if they are not returned, etc. On the positive side, the staff was friendly and the pool is lovely. Overall, we spent much more money on the basics than warranted at this type of resort. If you want to go for golf only- and no other experience- this may be your place. Otherwise, there are definitely nicer resorts in a Miami that are much better for the price.
