I found that the Doral was accurately described by many of the reviews on Trip Advisor. I arrived for a 5 night stay and I knew what to expect.
Pros:
The service was excellent and the staff was pleasant and accommodating.
The grounds are lovely.
The food served in the restaurants and at catered banquets was good.
The renovated hotel room was comfortable and well appointed.
The golf pro shop had the most extensive inventory that I have ever seen.
The pools are beautiful.
Camp Doral was a wonderful experience for my son.
The price was right.
With a few exceptions, the public spaces are nice
Cons:
The mosquitoes are out of control.
The hotel walls are thin: one can hear doors slamming and the elevator opening and closing all night .
There are not enough restaurant choices on the property.
There is an odor of mold in many parts of the hotel.
My recommendations are:
Ask for a renovated room.
Enjoy the breakfast buffet.
The resort is very large; bring your walking shoes.
Wear mosquito repellent during the summer.
