“What a great staff--and the biggest TV ever!!”

Hyatt Place Universal Studios

5 of 5 stars
Vidalia, GA
Nov 7, 2008

This hotel and its staff are AMAZING. We were going to use the check-in kiosk but a friendly staffer (a young lady) came and greeted us and offered to help us at the desk. Another staffer held the elevator for me when I was getting luggage upstairs, and the young men at the desk spoke to us every single time we passed. To top it off, the manager, TIM, is one of the nicest, most professional people on the planet. Against the tourism channel's advice, we ordered pizza from a flyer under our door. Over an hour later, when we had trouble getting the pizza and the business was extremely rude, Tim actually talked to them and informed them that they were not welcome on the premises and not authorized to pass out the room flyers. He stepped in and helped us deal with the uncomforatable situation THEN offered to cook us pizzas himself, brought them up to the room, and didn't even charge us. He really saved a bad situation. As for the room, the whole reason we ordered pizza was because we wanted to stay in and enjoy the super nice sitting area, colossal TV, and order a movie off PPV. What a treat after a week-long conference!!! Having the sink area and separate bed area was so nice. We were even able to comfortably invite up a business colleague to join us since we had a sitting area. Oh, and we loved the little bistro that was available 24-7 downstairs--how nice. I LOVE this hotel, and I've stayed in the nicest, most expensive hotels in the country with my travels. Thanks to the great quality and EXCELLENT service, I'd stay here and recommend this hotel ANY TIME!!!

“Very comfortable”

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Hyatt Place for three nights so we could visit Halloween Horror Nights and Disney World for a weekend away from school. I would like to break it in to pros and cons followed by a conclusion of our stay.

The pros:

It's across the street from Universal. I mean directly across the street. Plus there's a shuttle that goes about every hour... we didn't take it because we stayed out very late and wanted a reliable means of getting back to the hotel without having to pay for a cab.

The room is comfortable. The beds, pillows, linens, etc are all of high quality. We overslept every night!

Television. Huge, HDTV.. I was able to watch all my college football games on Saturday (they have the basic digital cable channels which was good)

Staff/Service. The best way to describe the staff is helpful. We encountered a problem at the end of our stay and they handled it perfectly. Very friendly and willing to help you out in any way.

Food. Although there is no direct room service available, the kitchen is always open. You simply go downstairs and order from a touch screen monitor and you can pay there with a card or charge it to the room. It was nice to have chips and dip at 4am after a late night...

Other things to note were that it had a nice sized fridge, a safe, small desk and other items that are convenient to have. We also loved the contemporary look and feel of our room. LOVED the granite counter top!!

The cons:

I've noticed a lot of people complain about the close proximity of the restroom. Yes, the door comes very close to the toilet. For us, it was NOT an issue! But I'm mentioning it here because it can be a little difficult if 2 people are in the bathroom trying to move about it can be a little tight. Otherwise these people are exaggerating it's not bad at all. It's also important to note that it's this way because they kept the sink and granite counter top separate from the toilet/shower which we liked.

Although the price was definitely fair for what we got, it still felt like it was a bit too high. But who wouldn't like to stay at a nice quality hotel like this for cheap? =)

Creepy people walking the hallways LATE at night putting their fliers under doors. I don't think a hotel like this should allow employees from pizza and other delivery places to enter the hotel and place advertisements under the doors of rooms. I think a solution to this problem would be to provide things like this downstairs in the lobby area so if we are hungry we can come down and find them.

Parking... not a real issue, it would be nice if there was a bit more parking available.

It would have been nice to have some more channels on digital cable. Also... $12.99 to watch a movie? Okay...

The "Hi-Speed" internet is slow. I mean it works, but we couldn't stream any shows or movies online.

My personal issue...
On our checkout day there was some kind of police showing/convention directly in front of the hotel. So from about 7:30am to 10:30am there was:
2 Helicopters
Several police cars, firetrucks, and ambulances using their sirens (over and over and over and over and over)
2 Air boats on trailers driving around in circles (WHY???)

We were very annoyed by this and complained, especially because we were given NO WARNING. The staff was extremely polite and apologized and handled the situation perfectly. I was very satisfied with their prompt response to the situation.

My suggestion is that if a hotel is informed of an event like this, take the time to inform your guests!

This event is the only thing that prevented me giving a full 5 star rating of excellent.

Conclusion:

Overall we were extremely pleased with out stay. Everything was great and convenient. The staff was friendly and the location is great. The TV is amazing but the prices of watching movies are way too high. The comfort factor is great, the beds are very soft as well as the pillows and linens.

We will definitely consider the Hyatt Place Orlando/Universal on our next trip!

Hotel is located very close to the universal studios - almost walking distance and right in front of the famous outlet centres. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and looking in good shape. The rooms were spacious and modern. We had to change our room due to a problem with the door keys at the last minute and got one of the smallest rooms. Still it was big. Compared to other touristic hotels in the area, it was quite above the average. Definitely worth the price.

“"Great Hotel!"”

Hyatt Place Universal Studios

We stayed in the Double/Double Bed Suite. The room was large enough for a family of five. The queen size sleeper sofa was very comfortable. The room also had a small refrigerator which was very handy and a very nice 42 inch plasma tv, just a little annoying as there were no instructions on how to operate. The Hyatt Place is in close proximity to Universal Studios. We took the complimentary shuttle there, the only disappointment with that was the shuttle was completely full with people by the time it cam to pick up people from Hyatt Place, we had to stand all the way to Universal Studios. However, they do have more then one departure schedule from the hotel and Universal studios.

The only other awkward moment was breakfast time, the complimentary breakfast was not all that great! The guest kitchen was rather small for everyone and a limited variety of food to eat.

Overall, the Hyatt Place is a great place to stay and offer a little more than other hotels close to Universal.

“Perfect stay”

Hyatt Place Universal Studios

We stayed at the Hyatt Place Universal in July for a base to our Orlando experience. The breakfast was small but adequate. The room was fantastic. It was very clean, provided a nice frig. and plenty of space. There were a few extra pillows on the couch than I like, but who cares about that. The staff was extremely friendly. Parking at Universal (as well as Disney and SeaWorld) was about $10. We took the morning shuttle to Universal the one day and then used a taxi to return - it was less than $3! Very easy access to I-4 and all the area attractions. Will definatley recommend.
